Sounds like a weakened muscle left loose from the bone; not necessarily a hernia. If it were me I would wrap it tight just like a broken rib and see if it heals itself. Any injury can expect to manifest swelling so immobilization for a couple weeks may well do the trick but it isn't guaranteed. In any case I would be a couch potato for a couple days and then go to a light workout continuing with the wrap which can be removed if no pain is present but activity without the wrap should test the injury with caution....no sudden movements.
