Herndon Environmental Network Newsletter - July 2016
Hello again, HEN followers. Read on for news and info about what is going on in July (with a sneak peek at upcoming events):
COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATES:
We are hard at work fundraising for the Community Garden project and we need your help! The garden will be located at Bruin Park (off Van Buren Street). There are several steps that still need to be completed before construction can begin: signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Town of Herndon, getting insurance to cover our activities at the garden site, etc.
One of the most essential steps is raising money to bring water to the site. We are looking to raise around $8,000 at this point (a big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped raise $2,000 so far!)
This is how you can help:
Thank you for all your support!

HEN Habitat Heroes
WHEN: Saturday, July 9, 10am to noon
WHERE: Stanton Park, Third Street, Herndon
Stanton Park is
a 10-acre neighborhood park that has large areas left in their natural state.
Like most natural areas around here, the park is threatened by non-native
invasive plants. The spread of these invasives decreases biodiversity and harms
wildlife, thus reducing the quality of the environment.
Join us in our effort to reduce the spread of invasive plants such as Japanese
wisteria, burning bush, English ivy and multiflora rose.
We will meet at the park entrance
located at 910 Third Street. Bring water and bug spray and make sure you
wear long sleeves and long pants - there is poison ivy at this site. Closed-toe
shoes highly recommended. We are providing gloves and tools. To sign up, visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040445a5aa2da02-invasive
