HEN Habitat Heroes - Invasive Plant Removal

2017 Dates: March 18, May 20, June 24, July 22, August 26, October 21

Time: 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Where: Stanton Park, 910 Third Street, Herndon 20170 (meet at park entrance)

Bring water and bug spray and make sure you wear long sleeves and long pants - there is poison ivy at this site. We are providing gloves and tools. No knowledge of invasive plants is necessary, training will be provided on site.

Public Feedback Sought for Draft Update to Environmental Vision

Comments due by March 6.

A draft update to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisor's Environmental Vision has been produced, and public feedback is being sought. To offer input, you are asked to answer an online survey that will be available online through Monday, March 6. Sierra Club/Great Fall Group has been working on a consolidated set of comments. If you would like to review them, please contact Norbert at norber...@aol.com. If you feel that you have any unique comments or want to participate in the consolidation, let us know as we will be doing another set of consolidations next week based on comments received. Any comment is OK, but a comment not submitted is a bad comment.


Film Screening: Hometown Habitat

Hometown Habitat is an environmental education documentary focused on showing how and why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local ecosystems--and how you can make a difference with the landscaping in your own yard.

March 11, 2017 Green Breakfast: Virginia's Renewable Energy Future

When: Saturday, March 11, 2017, 8:30 am to 10:00 am

Where: Brion's Grille, 10621 Braddock Rd, Fairfax

Speakers: Kelsey Crane and Susan Stillman, Sierra Club Virginia

Speak Up for the Environment and Our Natural Resources - Learn Strategies to Create Change

Where: Green Spring Gardens, 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria, VA

(Hint: Do not use above address with GPS. Instead, get to entrance by using GPS to locate intersection of Braddock Rd & Witch Hazel Rd.)

Details: Attend this advocacy training workshop and hear 1) a member of Congress talk about why you should get involved--and how; 2) state elected officials discuss citizen advocacy tips; 3) information about advocacy tools, including how to have effective meetings with elected officials, how to build a relationship with an elected official, and which level of government does that; and 4) Northern Virginia advocacy success stories. Register by March 13. (Registration required)
