Hi Dr. Solin,

I have a quick question. I wanted to update the sphinx tutorial
example of "Elastostatics" to the latest API changes that have been
made, but i can't find "Elastostatics" under the following path
"hermes/hermes3d/examples$". Although i did find examples "elasticity-
cubit-tet" and "elasticity-cubit-hex" (which had similar Young's
modulus and Poisson's ratio as Elastostatics). Are these examples
just different versions of the old "Elastostatics"? Any response
would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Pavel Solin

Hi Erick,
thank you for working on this. This example had a very
simple geometry, so I replaced it with a nicer one - a cube
minus three cylinders in the axial directions. One version is
with hexahedral elements, one with tetrahedra. They require
hermes to be compiled with EXODUS support.

for this you just need to add into your

# Enable ExodusII and NetCDF (CUBIT mesh format support)
SET(WITH_EXODUSII YES)
SET(EXODUSII_ROOT /opt/packages/exodusii)
SET(NETCDF_ROOT /opt/packages/netcdf)

Here you will find how to install these packages on your system:

Hi Dr. Solin,

Thanks for the response. I will read more on ExodusII in the
documentation.

Thanks again,

Hi Dr. Solin,

Thanks for the instructions, they worked. How does one visualize the
solution in hermes3d, for example after i input "/examples/elasticity-
cubit-hex$ ./elasticity-cubit-hex"?
I get the following output:

I Assembling the linear problem (ndof: 10527).
I Solving the linear problem.
I Solutions saved. Total running time: 17.5958 s.

I'm trying to obtain some snapshots so i could create a new example
for hermes3d sphinx examples. Any sort of feedback would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dr. Solin,

Thanks for the help.  Attached is a picture of the solution/screen-shot for example elasticity-cubit-hex.  Also, i think i will improve the instructions for paraview (how-to) because they were missing some important directions.

thanks again,

Hey Dr. Solin,

I just finished creating the new sphinx tutorial example "elasticity-
cubit-hex". Unfortunately i accidentally included the two ".png" files
in my commit when i pushed it to my remote github (under hermes
[branch sphinx]) . So when you pull it it might take a few minutes to
download, just letting you know ahead of time, before i send the pull
request.

Hi Dr. Solin,

I wanted to send a pull request but i kept getting the following
script error message every time i attempted to:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.
You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script
will complete.
Script: https://d3nwyuy0nl342s.cloudfront.net/ecf4c99470bb58c4fd3e1506e53fd6191c3f09e3/javascripts/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js:71

So perhaps you could pull from my remote github at:

https://erick-a...@github.com/erick-at-github/hermes.git
g...@github.com:erick-at-github/hermes.git

branch: sphinx

Let me know what you think about the sphinx example and if i should
make any improvements.

Hi Erick,
if the two images are part of the Sphinx tutorial, they should be included
in Git. I merged your changes.
