Here is the final release, v2.10.3.6 of Thetis for HL2.

Release now uses an installer

- Updated code base to latest official code, including
- added OE3IDE Connectors and Tools link to the about box links
- moved release notes button from setup to the about box
- variables that have name with _double now consider %precis=N%
- resolved issue where redraw of console controls became very slow after 8th Oct Windows update

WARNING

This release now contains the database manager. If you have other Anan radios, this release will work with them, but you must define separate databases and select the correct database with the -dbid: option. This release creates the desktop shortcut with -dbid:HL2. As the official release of Thetis for the Anan series of radios is not HL2 aware, there may be issues if you try to use the official Thetis with a database that is HL2 aware. Please back up your databases.

More information on the database manager can be found by searching YouTube using Richie's call sign, MW0LGE.

Be aware that the official Thetis is still not HL2 aware, so there may be issues if you try and use a HL2 database with the official release.

This release may need a reset of the database or even a complete rebuild of the setup. You may need to use the Ctrl key at startup to reset things. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

It would be helpful if users could test this release and report bugs in Github, as this will probably be the same code that will appear in the next official Thetis release with HL2 support.

Details of the release can be found in the release notes accessible via the Thetis Setup panel.

No warranty or guarantee, use at your own risk. It should use its own database, but do a backup of your current Thetis one just in case.

Cheers

Reid

Hi Reid,

It's been a while since I've had my HL2 powered up.  A very long while actually... my Thetis HL2 software is v2.8.12 (11/04/21).  I recall at that time that it was necessary to install both the core Thetis files and the HL2 Beta files.  This final release notes that it includes the installer.  Does that mean I could delete all the Thetis and HL2 Beta stuff from '21 and simply install using the MSI file?  And configure again from a clean install?

Thanks,

Brock VA7AV

Brock, yes. The new package is all in one. Best is a clean install and delete all old files except (if you wish to keep your database).

Hi Brock,

Yes, I would recommend you delete the lot including the database directory, C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\OpenHPSDR. There have been a lot of changes which could create problems if you try to use the old databases.

You will have to go through the Wisdom setup again, but better safe than sorry.

Cheers

Thanks to both of you... you've confirmed my thinking that I'm better to do a fresh install and start from the beginning.  I really need to do that anyway, to recall how it all goes together.

And thanks again, Reid, for all the work you've done on this project.  I took a hiatus from the HL2 three years ago and you've been working tirelessly all those years.  Time really does fly.

Hi Reid,

You may recall that I have both an Anan and an HL2 and so far have been able to keep seperate installs for both on my PC.
However, now when I install both, the 2nd one to install deletes the other install (even when specifying different install folders).
e.g I install Thetis for Anan and it deletes the HL2 install or Thetis for Anan is installed and I install Thetis for HL2, it deletes the Anan install !!
I can't seem to win, despite setting different install paths?!

Any ideas?

Hi Reid,

I have a temporary workaround for getting both versions installed.
1st, install Thetis for Anan and then use file manager to copy the installed directory/folder to a temp location.
2nd install Thetis for HL2 and then copy the Anan folder in temp, back to the normal install folder.
It's messy, but it works.

Another issue is that now when using Windows to uninstall Thetis, it only 'knows' about the last version installed and uninstalls for example, Thetis HL2 only, leaving Thetis Anan untouched and in place.
I have to manually delete the untouched folder version.
Yet another mess.

Is there any possibility of merging the two source versions of Thetis now?

Hi Nigel,

The HL2 version of Thetis is the merged version and should run HL2 and Anan, you just need to specify different databases. I fact, we need people with both sets of hardware to confirm the integration. When there is enough confirmation, ie. lack of bug reports, we can move forward towards a single release.

So please, if you have Anan and HL2 systems, run with the HL2 version and report any problems. This will help with future releases of the Thetis software.

Cheers

Hi Reid,

Thanks for the rapid response.
I have completey uninstalled Thetis and manually deleted all old install folders.
Made a clean install of Thetis HL2 version and accepted a default install.
I am maintaining my two seperate database folders and have appropriate -datapath:...  settings in both Thetis target desktop shortcut links.

I can confirm Thetis HL2 is 'Anan aware' (but Thetis for Anan is not HL2 aware, as I checked before uninstalling).
One thing that changed in my Anan 200D database setting is the PA Settings >> PA gain as it changed the setting to ORIONMK2 (which is correct), BUT put default PA settings in place (I lost my previous Anan 200D settings).
Had I not checked and changed these settings, I may well have put 100W into my PA which only needs ~10W max for 1kW out - I would not have been happy if I had toasted a 3000 £/$/euro linear amp.

Will report any other problems as I find them, but if you don't hear from me, assume all is well... ;-)

I installed the final release.  It works fine for the HL2 and the ANAN-7000.  I didn't see any changes in my settings on either machine.  I just removed the previous beta version, restarted the PC and loaded the new version.

It is great to have a single version for both radios.  The DB manager is a great feature.

Hi Reid,

On starting Thetis HL2 today for my Anan, the PA Gain setting is blank and values are default (way too much output for my linear).
Clicking the drop down box, OrionMK2 is there and when selected, does contain my corrected values.
I have never seen the option of OrionMK2 in Thetis before (see further down the page).
In fact, it defaults to this behaviour on every start of Thetis HL2.
Any fix, other than deleting my databases?

<sigh> I'm growing tired of rebuilding entire db's on a regular basis ;-)

Keep reading, more below...

I uninstalled Thetis HL2 and installed Thetis Anan and it is as it always was, with ANAN200D selected so something in Thetis HL2 is changed?
And yes, to lower power output, you increase the gain settings!!

Hi Nigel,

Unfortunately, I have to suggest you delete the databases and start a fresh. You have been running with an unusual configuration where you have been installing and move software, so there could be any number of conditions which will affect the setup. As you are relying on settings to control how much power is supplied to the amp, I wouldn't take the risk of having something go wrong.

A note for anyone depending on power settings to limit the power supplied to external devices, always check the settings after changes to your system. This is experimental software and can't go through the same testing as commercial software. The reality is, you are the testers.

Cheers

Hi Reid,

I knew you were going to say that !! ;-)
I'm quite used to it now but the annoying/longest part is setting up my audio settings again to get it just how I want it.
AFAIK there is no way to only export/save your audio profile i.e. CFC and EQ settings and then import it back into a new db?

The point I was trying to get across was that under Thetis Anan, it correctly sets the 'PA Gain' as Anan200D (I have never seen OrionMK2 appear before).
OrionMK2 only appears under a Thetis HL2 install.

I fully apreciate this is open source / experimental software and am grateful to you and Richie etc for your efforts on our behalf.
No complaints from me.

A point to note regarding the power settings in Thetis via the 'PA gain' is that reducing power this way, there is no 'overshoot' at any time, unlike some commercial radio's which momentarily shoot full output power.

of course you can export the audio/transmit profiles and import them again.

Export works via Setup>Transmit "Export Button" on the right below the "Additional TX Profiles" List.
Export path is C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\OpenHPSDR\Thetis-x64

Import works via the Database Manager under "apply to currently active" with the right button.

Hello Sigi,

Thanks for that, you learn something new every day ;-)

BTW, I like your QRZ page, I have just acquired a Hermes board and PennyWhistle PA for not-too-much-money and am interested in your Hermes implementation on yor QRZ page, in particular, the relays for antennas & pure signal etc.
Maybe I can email you off list if that's OK rather than make 'noise' here.

Hi, I have been waiting quite a while for Thetis for the HL2 to be easy to install, so I thank all who made this possible. I have installed it and have it receiving great on my HL2, however I can't seem to figure out how to get the TX to work. Is there somewhere I can go to get a detailed overall setup info especially the TX. Please advise.

Hi Reid

So, If your Thetis HL2 is Anan aware, am I correct in assuming that I can now remote into my 8000 using my no-ip address? Assuming that i select the correct database for the 8000, or is that still a no no?

Hi Charlie,

It only works for P1, so may work with Anan with P1 firmware.

Cheers
