When ever I install a new radio, G2, Hermes, Square, Brick, they always show my noise floor as S7 to S9 yet my Yaesus and Kenwoods show a different level. I think the Yaesu and Kenwood are more correct. AND, I moved from a suburban environment where my noise floor on those radios dropped significantly but my Anan style radios still show that same high level. (NOTE: The antennas are the same). Is there some calibration I am not doing on my Anan style radios that is needed to reflect a proper noise floor?

a) the "noise floor" as seen on the panadapter does not correspond to
a dBm or S-meter value. For example, the S-meter jumps by 10 dB if the filter width
is increased from 250 to 2500 Hz (this MUST be the case) while the noise floor
on the panadapter stays the same.

b) Yaesu and Kenwood agree in having S9 for -73dBm, but then (as far as I recall)
Yaesu works with 3dB per S-meter step while Kenwood works with 6dB (as recommended
by IARU)

so perhaps you formulate your question more clearly?
