Hi,

I have a PC with 2 ethernet connections, I use one as the connection to my LAN (192.168.1.99)
I want to use the other for a direct connection to my HL2. I have done the following:-

Assigned a static IP address to the second ethernet port (192.168.5.1)

In Thetis I have enabled a static IP address (192.168.5.2)

After rebooting both the PC and HL2 and connecting the HL2 directly to the PC

Thetis cannot find the HL2?

Is this the correct route to follow to try and connect the HL2 directly to a PC?

Regards

Have you set the PC ethernet  gateway to 192.168.5.2 as well? It needs to know where to send its discovery.

The Thetis static IP does not configure the HL2 with a static IP. See:

You must set the HL2 to a fixed IP within your new subnet using that technique. There may be more OS configuration too of gateways, etc.

Default Gateway configuration shouldn't be necessary, as the second nic has no connection to a router nor does it have other networks connected to it.

Fault gateway is only used when an ip address doesn't match the own ip's network range.

Hi Glenn,

It might help to switch off the other network adaptor and only let windows find the HL2 that way. I tried to plug my HL2 directly into the Ethernet adaptor on my laptop while the WiFi was active, it couldn't see the HL2.

Switching the WiFi off concentrated Windows to look at the Ethernet and the HL2 magically appeared. Obviously I then couldn't see the rest of the world but when I switched the WiFi back on, the HL2 could still be seen. It must be a routing type of thing.

YMMV

Cheers

Hi Reid,

Thanks for your reply. I did try what you suggested but it did not work.
I understand now that you need to set the HL2 to a fixed IP within your new subnet. I used Spark as suggested by Steve (see his reply above).
It worked first time, I just changed the fixed IP address, did not change the MAC address, and re booted the HL2.

I always like to use a separate  adapter and go direct to the PC rather than use the LAN, high LAN traffic caused me a problem in the past with my Orion MK2 project.

All the best

Glenn
