I have fitted the components to obtain the band volts output as per Steves instructions. It says "The pick-up point for the Band Volts PWM is on Pin 4 of DB1"
This pin has a 2.1v square wave with a period of about 1.4mS.
(I should have checked this before assembling the components)
Setting the dither in Thetis make no difference.
Could this be because I have an old gateware version.
One instance of Thetis says the Firmware is V7.
If this is my problem, so can I update the firmware?

Hi Keith,

How old is you HL2?

The Band Volt feature was added about 3 years ago and should be in version 7.2.1 and above of the Gateware. You mention setting the dither bit on Thetis which would suggest that you are not the HL2 ware version. I would try it with the HL2 version which can be found at

https://github.com/mi0bot/OpenHPSDR-Thetis/releases/tag/v2.10.3.4-beta2

This version should also give more details on the Gateware version.

Cheers

Hi Reid,
I did have the band volts working after your advice and made a decoder using an LM3914N-1 Display driver which worked well.
Thank you.
I recently upgraded Thetis and unfortunately the Band Volts do not work.
The software/hardware info is "Thetis v2.10.3.6 x64 (10/20/24) (FW v7.2.3 Protoclo 1) (MI0BOT)
Under Hermes ite Options I have selected Band volts. Should I be enabling I2C control or making a change to the I2C settings?
Regards

Hi Keith,

I just checked the Band Volts and it working OK on my system. Please measure the voltage directly with a meter to confirm if it is being correctly generated in your HL2.

Hi Reid
I'm sorry to be a nuisance.
My HL2 with the software and settings below, outputs the two temperature dependant fan control voltages.
I have deleted the databases and re-installed and setup the software several times.
The HL2 insists on providing fan control. Are there any other parameters the I should have set to make the Band volts work?
I have two other Windows PCs on the network giving the same result.
Should I update the HL2 Firmware again?

Thetis v2.10.3.7   01/01/25
FW v7.2.3     Protocol 1
HL2 Options / Band Volts,  ticked
(Dual speed fan control is operating instead)

Your help is really appreciated.
Best regards,
Keith ZL2TPQ

Hi Keith,

I think your Gateware (FPGA code) is out of date. You need to update it to, at least, the latest stable release. This can be found here:

https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite2/tree/master/gateware/bitfiles/stable/20231230_74p2_883a338/hl2b5up_main

I think the best program to update the Gateware is SparkSDR. You can find a link to it in the HL2 Wiki.

Thanks Reid,
Installed the latest gate ware and all is well now.
I thought the gateware I had was band volts friendly.
If  it happens again, I'll update first.
Thanks again, Keith
