Hi

I have now completed my Hermes Lite boards and am trying to program my BeMicro SDK with the .jic file.

So far as I can tell, the programmer screen looks the same as that in the programming instructions; the USB blaster is found and selected. When I try to load the .jic file I get an error message
"2100001 Can't open programming file C:/Users/G3RTD/Desktop/Hermes_Lite_12SDK.jic -- not valid SOF file"
(yes, 'not valid SOF file').

Has anyone seen this before, please, or know the solution? I get the same message using Quartus 14.1 and 11.1. What is the function of the .sof file that is supplied? Should I be using it in some way? Trying to load it or to convert it to a .jic also gives the error 2100001.

I have used the version 11.1 programmer successfully in the past to program my (homebrewed) Hermes board, but that seemingly used a different process.

Thanks, Jim G3RTD

Bring up 14.1 and select Autodetect it brings up a device in the display.

From the tools menu - Programmer and add the .jic file, tick program/verify and see a second duplicate device appears.

Highlight the first device by left clicking on it, then Right click on it, edit and delete it.
Click Start and it should program and verify the SDK.

Hi Sid

Using 14.1, opened tools - Auto Detect (no autodetect on my copy of Quartus II 64 bit v14.1)

Selected EP4CE22

Added the .jic file, but got the same error message as before, so I am stalled at this point.

In case it is relevant, I am running Windows 7, 64.

Thanks Jim, G3RTD

I am using 14.1 on Linux x86_64.
Altera's software always had identical GUI's so that you could use the software on Linux if you only knew Windows. May be that has changed.

Thanks Sid

Opening the downloaded file in notepad it was clear what I did wrong, it was an HTML file. When I used the Github View Raw function instead of right-clicking the file and downloading it, I received the correct file which downloads to the SDK correctly. Never used Github before! Sorry for the bandwidth, should have RTFM.

Regards

Jim, G3RTD

Hi Jim,
Glad it's sorted.
There is git for Windows. You can open a command prompt and type
git clone https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite

That will bring all the files down so they are saved on your PC. You will then have everything locally available.

If there is an update, go into the local Hermes-Lite directory and type "git pull" (without the double quotes) which will update your local copy.
