Probably something simple, but now have no RF from the HL2.  All was well at 4:30 PM this afternoon under v2.9.08.  Posting this at 12:51 AM as the last 8 hours have been tiring.  Upgraded to v2.10.3.3  just after 4:30 and have been struggling since. LP filtering properly configured, VAC works fine, CAT control fine, WSJT-X decodes fine.  No power from "Tune" on the Thetis display nor any via WSJT-X "Tune".  Drive at 50% and TX gain at 0 db.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled both versions several times.  Have deleted the data bases and allowed them to be rebuilt.  Have restored databases from USB backup, etc.

Everything works as intended except for RF output.  I see no way to enable the HL2 power amp and perhaps that is the issue. The Sept 2023 configuration instructions reference selections that were in past releases of Thetis but not apparent now.

I've been using Thetis since the first beta and appreciate your hard work and dedication to it Reid.

I am certain the HL2 is fine as it works normally with the latest version of Spark.

Thanks,

Karl - W5QJ

Hi Karl,

Can you post a screen shot of the Thetis Console so I can check versioning info.

Are you saying that you are now seeing the PA Control page in the setup screen?

Cheers

Hello Reid,

Thank you for getting back so quickly.  I do see a screen or two under setup, but don't see a check box for "Enable Full Duplex" or "Enable PA".

This it what I see:

The next two screen caps are from "9/24/23 Thetis Setup" and what I am unable to find in the current Thetis setup.

Some one missing the HL2 version – looks like the standard Thetis.

It looks like you are not running the correct version of Thetis. I have a attached a document from Rick N8SDR, which goes though the install procedure and has info on interfacing to Thetis.

Have a read through that and hopefully it will point you in the right direction.

Thanks Reid and others.

No luck, been down the path you suggested before.  But, uninstalled Thetis, deleted all databases under user/appdata/roaming, went through registry and deleted every reference to Thetis.  Rebooted, and per the install procedure you included, followed it to the letter best I could.  There are still inconsistencies between then install instructions and the actual setup screens though.  I have not enabled "Alex" or "Andromeda".

I am missing this screen, same as before.  If I can find it, I think the problem will be solved.  All works perfectly except the transmitter is "off".

  1. It looks like you are not using the HL2 customized version of Thetis that supports the HL2.
    1. The version in the title bar .  Note the HL2-Beta2 (MI0BOT).
    2. Find the HL2 versions at this release page Releases · mi0bot/OpenHPSDR-Thetis (github.com)
    3. You install the original Thetis which sets up the environment then download and unzip HL2 version into a separate folder.  Then run the Thetis.exe directly from the unpacked directory instead of the original Thetis .exe.
  2. Once you have the correct version
    1. HERMES LITE will be selectable on the H/W Select Tab
    2. Ext 10MHz (CL1 Input) and Enable CL2 will be seen on the F/W Set tab
  3. On the PA settings PA Gain tab you will want to turn up the default 38.8 value on the HF bands to 100% (Max) for full output power once you enable the PA.

  1. Ensure you hav the N2ADR Filter button to populate the filter matrix.
  2. Enable PA for 5W output through the Antenna Jack.

Hello Reid,

Spent a few more hours playing around with Thetis.  Don't think the problem really had to do with the installation method, but instead was the actual function of the two buttons under the "Apollo" tab.

This is what I've done since the post of 3 hours ago:

1) Used Revo Uninstaller to remove Thetis. Set Revo Uninstaller to remove all leftover files.

2) Then,  deleted OpenHPSDR under C:\Program Files and deleted C:\Users\w5qjk\AppData\Roaming\OpenHPSDR

3) Then removed the unzipped Thetis_x64_2_10_3_3 files from C:\HL2

4) Rebooted computer and logged back in.

5) Then installed Thetis-v2.10.3.4x64msi and selected "Custom" option instead of "Typical". Suspect that made no difference, but it was something to try.

6) After it installed, started Thetis and allowed it to run FFT's.

7) When completed, rebooted computer again and logged in again.

8) Unzipped Thetis_x64_2_10_3_3 to C:\HL2 and added shortcut pointing to the file to my Start menu.

9) Shutdown computer completely and then rebooted.

10) Started your program via shortcut in Start menu, allowed FFT's to complete, and then went through setup screens.

11) Was still unable to get any RF out of the Hermes, so following the order of configuration in the guide, went to the "Andromeda"
tab, then went to "Apollo" and had mouse cursor hover over "Enable Filters". While hovering over "Enable Filters", text
came up stating "Enables the full duplex on the HL2". Hovering over "Enable Tuner", text came up stating "Enables HL2
power amplifier".  Checked both boxes.  "Andromeda" is not referenced in the guide, but the tab order fell in line with the configuration instructions.

12) This screen is what I had been searching for and now the HL2 functions as it should.

Perhaps in the next release, the description of the two subject buttons could be made to match the text the mouse hover
gives.

Thank you for all of your help.

I still do not think you are running the HL2 version I linked at Releases · mi0bot/OpenHPSDR-Thetis (github.com).  It will not say Apollo when the HERMES LITE is selected.  See my screen shots in my previous post, there are several HL2 specific changes. If you do not see these and selected HERMES LITE then you have the wrong version.  One of the changes is renaming the Apollo Control to PA Control per this shot.  Plus other stuff in my screen shots like N2ADR filter.

Please show what version is displayed in your main screen title bar.

Hi Karl,

You are not using the correct Thetis. The correct Thetis has my call sign (MI0BOT) and HL2 in the title. Also you need to select the Hermes Lite in the Setup|H/W Select|Radio Model.

Please go back and read the document from the last email. It goes through install procedure and explains some of the setup.

An important note from this is that users should always refer to the HL2 as the Hermes Lite 2 or HL2, as a Hermes is an other product. It might seem like a small thing but it does cause confusion.

Cheers

Thank you Reid and Mike.

Yep, just took another look and changed from Hermes to Hermes II.  Had to make no other changes in configuration.  Everything that was setup before remained.   All matches the configuration document now.
