My Hermes Lite 2 works perfectly when used alone and seemed to work
well initially with my XPA12B amplifier but after a few days I began to get reports of a severely garbled echoing audio. I thought this was a defect in the amplifier but Radioddity sent me a replacement amplifier and the system is behaving the same way with the replacement amplifier as well.
With the amplifier engaged and with any input level from the Hermes Lite 2 ranging from 0.1 watt to1 watt the amplifier shows appropriate degree of output wattage amplification however whatever speech input I give it on SSB the resulting output signal is garbled and continues even after oral input is stopped. It continues to go on in an echoing decrescendo pulsating fashion for several seconds. I can see this on the monitor mode and also hear the echo audible in the headset. Each pulsation echo is a fraction of a second in duration. Each echo sound pulse is of lower amplitude than the on preceding it, and dies out after about 5 seconds. It makes speech recognition of the signal nearly impossible.
Searching this Forum and the XPA125B Forum I don't find prior mention of this behavior on either site.
In trying to troubleshoot the issue I have done the following so far.
I have a good RF choke on my antenna. Antenna SWR 1.1 to 1.2
I tried adding additional RF chokes on the antenna, on the USB cable to the desktop computer and on the jumper cable between the HL2 and the XPA125B
With this Hermes Lite 2 I am using a USB headset with microphone on a Windows 10 64 bit system with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770S CPU @ 3.10GHz running the most recent stable version of Thetis.
Because all worked well at first, and I continue to have the same issue with a new amplifier I suspect there may be a software setting in Thetis or the computer that I messed up and is the culprit. I have gone through the setting instructions again but to no avail. What am I missing? How do I correct this echoing distortion problem?
Please advise. Thanks
