Happy New Year 2024 everyone!
Maybe next year it will be possible to find out what USB/BCD Cable Enable does in the settings.

IMG_4116.jpegWith the proper USB adapter connected to your computer it will send out Yaesu (VK Amps, Elecraft…) band data data to an amplifier, or as I’m using it to a bandpass filter I got from 60dbm.com.
I’m hoping someone will write code for the I/O board to do the same thing. Unfortunately, I’m not a programmer.

In an earlier post I have IO board code that puts out Elecraft BCD pattern for 50-1296 transverter band map.  It is only a small amount of code and it is easy to swap out the VHF band codes for HF band codes and add a few more bands with cut and paste.   I use the BCD output to control a 5-band transverter from a K3.  Also passes along PTT.  Unlike the Elecraft K3 Line out signal, the IO board buffered GPIO will pull to ground.

One or the other of these:
https://ftdichip.com/products/c232hm-ddhsl-0-2/

I'm using the first one but I wish I had purchased the second one as it has 5v output also that would have powered my BPF board as well.

Just plug it in and enable via the checkbox in Thetis.

Then you can step through the HF bands and see which output(s) goes high to determine which BCD signal is on each of the 4 active wires.
The other 4 wires are unused by Thetis.

Then its a matter of connecting the 4 signal wires and ground wire to your Amp/Device.

A lot of different amps and station accessories use this protocol.

As I said earlier I hope someone will code this for the I/O Board, then its just a matter of getting the pins connected on the DB9 and attaching a cable to the station equipment.

I use the C232HM-DDHSL-0
I got mine from DigiKey - here is their page for that part # https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/ftdi-future-technology-devices-international-ltd/C232HM-DDHSL-0/2714139
Once you have that then you need to make up a longer cable most likely since that cable is little over a foot long, you need to use the Pinout on of the one used for a FLEX radio and the VK3AMP like in attached PDF I did for the Hermes / VK amp users, Note: when I did mine I placed mix 41 ferrites on each end of the cable.

Thanks Mike,
I will look for your code. Cut and paste is about the only kind of “programming” I could do😃
