HL2 was working quite happily across a 1Gb network through a switch obtaining an IP address via broadband router.

I wanted to connect to my PI4 using PiHPSDR but found it couldn't find the HL2, in an attempt to get it connecting I gave it a static IP address of 10.10.10.10 using SparkSDR. PiHPSDR still couldn't find the HL2 on the PI so abandoned the attempt.

To remove the static address I gave the PC a static address of 10.10.10.01 and set the IP to 0.0.0.0 using SparkSDR - note that with the 10.10.10.10 address HL2 was working with the PC OK.

Problem is now HL2 can't be seen by anything on any address! So far I have done a recovery reset by shorting the jack pins whilst POR and also reprogrammed the FPGA using USB blaster. Symptoms I have are first 2 LEDs flashing, third on and fourth off.

Any suggestions on where to go from here? Looks like the IP address is corrupt somehow - where is it stored, in the Ethernet chip? If so how do I reset it?

Thanks,

Solved my own problem - you must wait > 5 seconds with the jack shorted!

OK - so what is the best way to remove a static IP once set?

Further to my last email - just in case it helps others:

I had to use the recovery mode everytime I powered up even after uploading new firmware over Ethernet - problem seems to have been Quisk had the 0.0.0.0 address loaded under the "Hermes known IP". Solution was to delete it completely.

Hopefully all now sorted.

Hi Steve,

Glad you figured out and fixed this issue. I would like to get to the bottom of this as there are now a half dozen or so cases where the use static IP flag has been sent unintentionally. Do you remember or have any theories on how this flag might have been set for you?

The factory boot should start at power up with the jack shorted just briefly. Are you certain you had to wait 5 seconds? Short the jack, apply power and release the short. The check for shorted jack in the gateware happens less than a second after power is applied and is only done once.

The fixed IP flag is saved in a different EEPROM so that it persists even if the gateware is updated or rewritten. Quisk, SparkSDR and hermeslite.py are the ways I know of to set values in this other EEPROM.
