I began some CW testing with SDRC and HL2. Initially behavior seemed normal. Then when inserting a TRS plug, (with the far end disconnected) the radio would go into TX. Removing the plug the radio would remain in TX. Removing the plug and power cycling the radio, the radio would return to RX. I suspect a bad jack and have ordered a replacement. I thought that I would reach out to the group to see if anyone has experienced similar behavior, just in case its not a bad jack.

Gregg, i replicated what you have done and it happens to my HL2 too. I’m using theta.

Thanks Max. Guess I'll try reloading the gate code.

Hi,

I was actually thinking more of this problem with an early answer.

Just a few comments to hopefully help you debug. How are you determining the HL2 is in transmit? Via software, the TX LED on the HL2 or RF output from one of the connectors? The TX LED is probably the most useful:

Does the TX LED go on when you enable transmit from software?

Does the TX LED go off when you exit the software? It should, if it doesn't then it might confirm your theory that some other job is still running.

If the the TX LED does not go off when you exit the software, does it go off if you disconnect the ethernet cable? It should, as a watchdog timer will not be renewed. If not, then it may indicate a hardware issue.

Steve,
The TX Led goes on and off correctly when I push or release the ptt, space bar in my case.
When it happened, my first action was to remove the keyer jack but it stays on tx, then i removed the power plug and of course it stopped tx.
Reinserted the power plug it behaved correctly.
I tried more time to try to understand if it was a plug issue, as Gregg think, but it didn't happen again.
I will try again today.
Although, last night I made several CW qso using SDR console and an external keyer and it worked perfectly.

I wish it was only a strange coincidence :)

Hi Gregg,

Since the TX LED stays on even when you exit software, this does look like some component of the software still remains active. There is a watchdog counter in the HL2 and it must receive packets to stay in TX, so something is still sending packets. I think you said you are using SDRConsole on Windows? Can you open up task manager and share a screenshot of what process are running after you exit SDRConsole and the HL2 stays in transmit?
