HI All -

My RX audio via LinHPSDR is good, but the TX audio 'rapidly glitches' resulting in highly distorted output.  This occurs whether I'm using Pulseaudio virtual sinks to route audio from another app like WSJT-X, or the regular soundcard interfaces and SSB voice.  Seems like a buffering issue - sample rates are all consistent as far as I can see.

I see the same behavior on multiple machines and different versions of Ubuntu, but Quisk on the same machines works fine.  Wonder if anyone else has seen this?

Cheers Chris

Chris,
It does that to me on LinHPSDR, SDR Console.  However, I have 4 computers that I connect to it.  I have one computer that works all the time.  Dual boot Linux and Window.  Works fine on it.  I have another computer that does not work on SDR Console at all, But OpenHPSDR works fine on it.  Then I have a Linux running Fedora, has the audio "glitch" with LinHPSDR,and Quisk.  I only have one computer that I can make all of them work, the Dual boot one.

You are not alone.

Hello Chris,

I gave it a try using Linux Mint 19.2 and get the same problem. On tune the output is flickering as well which is a pity as the receive works well. The noise blanking is very effective on it. The tx breaks are very short duration glitches.

Hi Tim, Chris and Graeme,

I think these TX problems were observed before. See:

John Melton has a HL2 for testing, but I don't see much recent activity on his github account.

If someone has a good USB blaster setup, a binary search of gateware back to 1 or 2 years ago would be helpful just to check that the problem was not introduced in the gateware.

Also,

You can’t just plug HL2 or any networked SDR transmitter into a computer and use it. Attention *must* be paid to the networking and the router settings. Wi-Fi in a link is a big headache, but even a standard PC ó router ó HL2 needs some loving. As we’re using UDP (unreliable by design) the PC and router can forward incomplete packets in any order or just drop a packet. Two UDP packets out of sequence will cause very noticeable glitches. Even with a cable between a PC and HL2 UDP can cause grief.

Simon et all,

I agree with you 100% Simon. The problem that I am have is because of the dropped packets.  I thinks it is the Ethernet cards that I am using.  My computer that works on all programs has the best Ethernet card I have.  Also depends on the router and the router settings.  I am investigating farther into my Network system. BTW, I am using gigbit cards, switches and router.  Farther testing is required,  will report back with some results I hope.
My opinion,  SDR Console is really nice program for me.

Thanks
Tim

In my case, Quisk works perfectly on the same Linux machine/same network.  If dropped UDP packets were causing the TX audio issue, I think I’d expect to see it in Quisk too, unless the apps work with the underlying network stack differently.  Could be wrong..
