Hello.
Newbie question with HL2
I would like to know if anyone has a programming file for the I/O board, which controls an Icom AH-4 ATU. I have tried to find it in the repositories, but I have not been able to get it to work correctly.

Regards and thanks.

Hi Antonio,

I still use the original method to control a AH-4 and now AH-705:

I have 3 HL2s setup for this.

If there is a way to control an AH-4 with the new IO board, I would recommend using that instead.

Hi Steve.

Thanks for your reply. I'm considering this solution as a last resort, as it is incompatible with the I/O board. If I can't control the coupler with the I/O board, I'll have to opt for that, and get rid of the board... unfortunately.

Thanks and good contacts.

Hi Steve.

I've decided to fix it with the method you use.

I've placed the components
Q4B, Q6B, R4, R8, R16
The voltages are correct., as indicated on the page:
https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite2/tree/master/hardware/enclosure/endcaps/kf7o/hl2_40b#atu
Also the wiring.
I've tried with a LDG Z-100PLUS, and MAT-705.
When I press the TUNE button on the Thetis ......... but the ATUs don't work.

Is this setup correct? Is there something wrong?

Thanks for your attention.

Hi Antonio,

I believe only Quisk is setup with the old method to control ATU AH-4. I have only used the AH-4 with Quisk. Did you try Quisk? You have to enable the antenna tuner function (set to tune) in Quisk.

Hi Steve.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for the inconvenience.
I haven't tried QUISK.
I noticed that the photos of the board mounting on the website don't match the text mounting:
It puts the Q6A, not the Q6B.
It puts R9 (100K), not R8 (10 K).
Which one is the real one?

Regards and Thanks.
Antonio D. (EA7HGL).

P.S.: I can't find a photo or mention of the mounting that works.

Hi Antonio,

I may have been trying something experimental in the picture. Stick with the schematic. Depending on what transistor you use, you install position A or B.

Just to warn you, this may be a bit challenging and require significant debug. It is not meant for production use. Are you interested in that sort of experimentation?

Hi Steve.

Even at 65 years old, I continue to experiment, design, etc. in this field of radio.
The question was about the discrepancy between the text and the photograph.

As I imagined and according to what I saw in the diagram, the Q6B, R8 did not seem appropriate, but I had to try.

Once changed for the Q6A, R9, and tested with the LDG 100 .......... it works perfectly.

So by placing only Q4B, R4 Q6A, R9 ...... it works for me.

Thanks for your answers and greetings.

P.S.: I hope this clarification helps another person who likes to experiment.

Hello Antonio. I also want to do this project. I have an io board. I think we couldn't make a software that will work with ah4 tuner with this board. I want to implement the circuit like you. I would be very happy if you share a photo of the parts you use and the circuit diagram. It would be a very good guide for me. Also, what software do you use for Hermes? and what settings did you make. I also have a yeasu band control project in my mind with Hermes io board. I want to control with amplifier and make automatic band switching.

Hi Alper.

I'd like to tell you that the system I've used to control the ATU is with the Hermes Lite 2 backplane, you just have to install Q4B, R4, Q6A, R9 and the corresponding wiring, as indicated on this page:

I haven't managed to control it with the IO board yet, because the different files I've tried don't work for me (that's why I asked if anyone had a file already tested).
Steve kindly replied that he uses the method I'm using now... for the moment; when I have more time I'll have to start implementing it, when I have something useful I'll let you know.
Remember that the components to place are the ones I indicate, because the text indicates the Q6B and it must be the Q6A.

You know where I can help you as much as possible.

Greetings from Antonio D. (EA7HGL).

Thank you very much for your information. Can you share the finished project with photos of the cables and hermes lite connections? Also, could you inform me about the changes you made to the control software for hermes?

Hi Alper.

I am attaching different photos of the connections, as well as the Thetis configuration (SETUP > GENERAL > ATU).
If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you very much for the pictures you sent. Very descriptive and useful. I checked the circuit diagram with your pictures and saw that the diodes and capacitors were connected. Are R4/Q4B, R9/Q6A sufficient? Or do I need to solder other components on the schematic? Thanks

Hi Alper.

The diodes are not fitted, instead there are capacitors to prevent RF input as much as possible. The rest of the capacitors are fitted for the same reason. Although these are not necessary for operation, their use is advisable.

Regards from Antonio D. (EA7HGL).

P.S. Thanks Steve for all your work.

Hello Antonio. Thank you very much for sharing. It was exactly the scheme I was looking for. I will order the necessary parts and start the project. I will share the finished project with you here. I am grateful to you and Steve. I wish you healthy days. 73..

@Antonio

In the wiki it shows Q6B and R8, where as you're suggesting Q6A and R9....which is correct? I ask because I think I may have fried something on my HL2 using the Wiki component layout...

Hi Ramsin.
The schema I use is the one you can find above.
I want to improve it, but I haven't been able to dedicate any time to it yet.
Please check the connections you have made, as I have tried both configurations and my HL2 has not been damaged.
Regards.

Thank you for that Antonio, it is much appreciated. After posting, I realized that the Wiki is using an end plate different than what comes with the enclosure kit from Makerfabs...the one in the wiki has a cutout for a fan and some components are in different places, mine does not. I will try to buy the correct components according to your schematic and try that way, thanks again!...also, is this your schema or was it found somewhere on the wiki?

Hi Ramsin.,
I am attaching a link for you to download a .rar file.
I think you will find more information about how I got it.

Worked perfectly, Antonio. Thank you for your exploration and help! My LDG AT-7000 tunes right up. I was using the schematic on the github, but that seems like it's for official Icom AH-4 tuners. Thanks again!

Hi Ramsin
I'm glad your ATU works.
I've tested it with the AH-4, LDG it-100 and MAT40, all working without problems.
I want to make some small changes to the circuit, for better response, when I finish it I'll post the information here.
Regards.

Hi Antonio!

Is there a chance we can chat and get some advice about getting an ATU for the HL2? I would like to do it in Spanish but don't want to mess this conversation. Thanks!
