I have SDR Console configured pretty good now On my HL2, I'm getting about 4 watts output on voice peaks using SSB however while transmitting I hear my TX audio in the background and it's very distorted and annoying. My TX audio reports are great. Does anybody know how to mute that audio in the background? I have the mute RX in TX checked but still hear it.

No ssb transmit audio problem here, Joel, completely quiet during transmit. I'm using the latest version of SDR-Console on a Win 7 32 bit. Didn't have to touch anything to achieve that. Sounds a little like rf feedback getting into the audio circuits, although unlikely at 4W (unless that is driving a linear when the problem occurs?) Make sure your audio cables are segregated from any RF cables - a change of shack layout can make a feedback issue appear. My speakers are Bose Companion 2, obtained 2nd hand from ebay. They were expensive new, but are shielded and seem to be better than some cheap noname speakers for rf feedback. I popped on some ferrites for good measure - up to 6 turns helps if the cable / connectors will allow - much better than 1 turn.

So I bought an HL2 just after Christmas and SDR-Console is my favourite software with that. I still have the Proficio you sold me and listen with it, it's still working well, compares well with my other rigs for performance.

Hi Joel

Make sure you have the latest stable HL2 Gateware and also the latest version of SDR Console because in older versions of SDRC there have been some RX muting issues that are now all fixed. You should be running version 3.0.27:

Also check the TX monitor panel at the bottom of the TX DSP panel. You may have inadvertently got something set in there that's causing some kind of issue. The use of this panel is not documented anywhere, at least not last time I looked. Make sure both TX and RX buttons are deselected.

Assuming that the above is all OK, and that you have the RX muting set correctly in the TX panel (you said you checked that), then the fact you say you are hearing distorted audio, like Bob says, it does sound like RF feedback into the audio of your PC somehow. I certainly have experienced this exactly as you describe but only because I have a lazy lash-up of an antenna, end fed wire straight into shack with no feeder. It's only a temporary bodge up but it make it RF lively (of course!). Like Bob says, may need some ferrites on audio leads/ethernet cables to prevent RF getting into the PC or peripherals.

Hi Bob, thanks for all the good suggestions, I think I've got it all figured out now, TX audio is now quite. I upgraded to SDR Console 3.0.27 from .26 and deselected the TX box in the TX DSP window. I'm glad the Proficio is still plugging away for you, I saw a picture of it on your QRZ page, it turned out very nice. 73 Bob.

Hi Max, you hit the nail on the head, I upgraded to SDRC 3.027 and found I had the TX box checked in the TX DSP window. Everything seems to be working fine now. I am interested in the Gateware update, I am currently running 72.8,RX:4. Should I upgrade this? Where do I find the new Gateware files? Thank you and others that responded to my request.

Gateware is available from https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite2

Looks like you are on the latest seatbelt version .

That's great Bob. Glad we found the issue. I did think it would be something simple. Like with any of the softwares there are a few places with settings where it can go awry but once set up all is good. I do love SDRC as others will have realised from my posts!

I'm on 72p8 too. I think that's the latest stable as Mark says. I'd stick with that.

Hi Joel,
Good to hear all is fixed now. The HL2 / SDR Console is a very good radio, which I really enjoy using - got it on now on a rather noisy 80m late morning. I've built a small 30W linear and an autotuner for it, so hopefully can now do a bit in the campervan with either the telescopic fibreglass 30ft mast or a couple of kites to act as 'sky hook'. I should be able to use either the Proficio or HL2 with a bit of luck. I've got a 12" tablet which just about runs SDR Console but which has no ethernet port. A USB to ethernet adapter from ebay allows me to run the HL2 from the tablet. We'll see how stable that is longer term.

Bob G4BBY,

Can you advise where info on 30 W linear and Autotuner can be found ?

Hi Paul,
The amplifier is a "70w minipa" off ebay - by no means perfect as it only uses one pot to bias the two mosfets. I run it at a lower level consistent with better imd and I used two IRF530 from the same batch I had in my store. I feed that through a russian lpf kit also from ebay which I don't see sold any more - but there are plenty of other relay switched kits out there. The lpf is essential. The autotuner is an atu100 also from ebay, which I fitted in a 3d printed plastic box, suitable for matching the end-fed wires I will use. The tuning caps are tiny, but ok for 30w. All of it not the most elegant but it does deliver a welcome boost to the 5W and improves your chances of an ssb contact.
I wouldn't mind building a 100w amp, based on this set of boards -  https://sites.google.com/site/rfpowertools/ - that looks quite a nice setup, although to work from a vehicle battery it does need a low cost inverter to step up to 48v dc.
All the best, Bob G4BBY

For an amp & LPFs, check the local ham swaps for a cheap older HF rig & use the boards from it. Kenwood TS-440 era rigs are simple to repurpose the amp & LPF.
