Hello,
maybe it is just an user error, but when I try to use an external PTT switch, I get no audio. If use the first tip of the 3.5mm plug, I get a tune tone. The second tip switches to PTT but no audio - is this something in the setup of Thetis ? With SDR console it works.

Many thanks

With Thetis I used VAC1 to connect to a USB mic and USB speakers.  I used VAC2 with RX2 for digital modes (DIGU) going to Virtual audio cable pair with WSJTX at the other end.  The other SDR apps have dedicated mic and audio assignment slots for mic and speaker.  At least this is what I figured out/read about Thetis config so far, working good here.

More specifically, to get my speakers and mic working on VAC1 I found I had to use MME with MSFT Sound Mapper for best results, this is for my Windows 10 Pro x64 on a HP laptop.

For VAC2 I am using VAC cables.

Maybe I was not explanatory enough.
Everything works fine as long as I e.g. use the MOX button. But when I use an ext. switch connected to the HL2+ 3.5mm jack, PTT works, everything is switching to transmit, but no audio. If I use the very tip of this connector, the HL2+ switches to transmit and tune is activated, then a HF signal is generated. But - as said - when using the second contact of the 3.5mm jack PTT works but no audio.
Background is to use an ext. PTT, to avoid that using e.g. the space key is only working when the focus of Windows is to Thetis, if e.g. a browser is used PTT is not working. Which is right and understandable.

From the Wiki:

"Key PTT
The Hermes-Lite has a 3.5 mm stereo KEY/PTT jack on the front panel. The
ring connector is the push-to-talk input. Ground it to put the
Hermes-Lite into transmit mode. The tip connector is the key input.
Ground it to put the Hermes-Lite into transmit mode and generate a CW
signal. The Hermes-Lite does not have an internal keyer or sidetone, so
connect your external keyer with sidetone or a straight key to the CN4
tip. Starting with gateware 71p2 you can connect a foot switch to the
ring to turn on transmit and then key CW using the tip. Previously the
functions were separate.

The ring and tip status are sent to the PC so that your SDR software can
react to them. For details see the protocol page. The PC can also set
transmit mode and send CW without using CN4. See the documentation for
your SDR software.

In normal operation, software will trigger PTT or the CW KEY. Most
operation is remote through the software, and the Hermes-Lite 2.0 can be
at a remote location."

But it is down to the SDR software to know what to do. PowerSDR/Thetis
don't work in my hands in that way so I use a PTT foot switch with an
Ardinuino Nano as per:

As far as I know there is no audio codec in the HL2. I thought the 3.5mm socket on the front was for Ptt and CW only?
TX audio is only available via the use of VAC i.e from a mic or line input to your PC directed to the HL2 via VAC.

I note the user is asking about an "HL2+". See here for a long discussion about the "+" version.

Hi All,

This is part of the undesirable confusion caused by the fork, but I think Juergen meant "HL2 with Thetis."  He says that it works with SDR Console, and SDR Console does not work with the HL2+. The PTT connection on the HL2 is meant for a user to have a PTT switch without having to press an icon on the computer. It sends the PTT message to software. My guess is that Thetis is not responding to this. Juergen, are you using the HL2 version of Thetis from Reid?

Hi,

I would recommend looking at "Allow PTT to override/bypass VAC for Phone" in Setup/Audio/VAC1. If this is checked Thetis will not pass the VAC1 microphone audio to the HL2 (just confirmed this on my setup, I am running Thetis-HL2 v2.8.12 (08/05/21) Beta 5) when keyed using the HL2 PTT input (3.5mm jack).

I should have added the following to my post.

Unchecking the "Allow PTT to override/bypass VAC for Phone" will enable mic audio from VAC1 to the transmitter when using the 3.5mm PTT input.

:-)
That is the solution !

"Unchecking the "Allow PTT to override/bypass VAC for Phone" will enable mic audio from VAC1"

 Thanks,

Too many adjustment points :-)

Now I have a working foot pedal !!
