Jim KD4YLQ,

I use the document by Rick N8SDR:

to configure JS8CALL when I use Thetis.  I do not know if that is his latest revision.  FWIW Quisk is quicker for me to configure and troubleshoot for a new digital mode.

Agreed. Plus one for Quisk when doing digital.  Creates it's own audio devices for direct routing. No VAC bananas monkey business. No reset the database.  Just works extremely well.

Agreed, I am working JS8Call with Quisk and my HL2 and it was easy to configure. When operating the JS8Call is nearly full screen, the lower line of Quisk just showing below, which shows me the output power and SWR and I feel it'is enough.

Don't get me wrong, I love Thetis.  Its vast configurability has opened my eyes to the possibility of antenna diversity, speech processing, Pure Signal, connecting to spotting networks, geochron display, transmit profiles, etc. with the Hermes Lite 2.  It would have taken me a long time to consider these if I had only used Quisk.

The PDF you listed (Chris) is really great and will certainly help me get everything working that I want to use; I don't know why I haven't seen it referred to before now. The many recommendations of using Quisk, for JS8Call especially, are also testimonials for the ease of using that SDR (instead of Thetis) for that mode, so I will have to DL & set that up too. Outstanding help my friends - thanks so much!!

No one particular SDR application excels in every use scenario so you will likely find that you chose different applications depending on your planned activities.  For digital modes I use Quisk to run the HL2.  For SSB I use PIHPSDR.

For digital modes like FT-8, I actually found that the advanced noise reduction distorts the signal. Also, PureSignal doesn't help for single tone at a time digital modes. I use Quisk or SparkSDR, both under Linux, and with no hassle of virtual audio cables.

Hi I had a question about the Geochron you mentioned among other options in your reply.

I’m sorta new to all of this.    I own an HL-2 plus and the Geochron dongle that hooks up my network and displays on my 4K monitor.   How would the Geochron interface with my HL-2.   For what purpose and or benefit.  Thanks for you reply and thoughts.

Paul WA9BTV,

I am new to this too.  I am not using Thetis to interface with a Geochron dongle.  Thetis has a Spot menu to select and display a world projection map, grayline, and solar azimuth(?) as the background of the panadapter.   I use that sometimes.

Steve,
I am really struggling to get JS8Call to run on my Hermes lite2 with Quisk. Could you share settings of Quisk and PC sound card? Do I need an external sound card? I have got VarAC to run with Thetis but not familiar with Quisk. Any help or screen shots would be appreciated.

Hi,

Since you  mention Thetis I assume you are running under Windows. Sorry, but I never use Windows with the HL2. Under Linux, I've used pipewire or the automatic pulse sink/source created by Quisk. Those are general sound interfaces in Linux and you can find many good tutorials on YouTube.
