Hi all,

A question about the HL2 transformers:

T3 (the output transformer) is specified as 4T primary, 1T+1T secondary
on BN43-202. What would be the recommended gauge of the wire?

T1 (low power TX balun) is 1:1 on BN43-2402. Recommended number of turns
and gauge?

T2 (RX input transformer) is 8:1 impedance on BN43-2402. I've seen on
Claudio's page:
http://www.qsl.net/in3otd/ham_radio/Hermes-Lite/Hermes-Lite.html
That 5 and 14 turns with 0.2mm gauge wire are recommended. I have plenty
of 0.25mm gauge wire, so I'll try to wire it with that.

I used a 0.4 mm diameter wire but it's not so critical; there can be some small improvement if you use more wires in parallel for the single-turn windings as it can improve the coupling but it's not really necessary.

IIRC, I used 6+6 turns of 0.2mm diameter wire - again, I think the wire size is not really critical here

I remember it was difficult to fit all those turns with the 0.2 mm wire; in case the 0.25 mm does not fit also 4t:12t could do.

Thanks Claudio,

I have a piece of something that looks like around 0.5mm diameter, so
I'll use that for T3 and 0.25mm for T1 and T2.

Hi Dani,

For the RX balun, an alternate is https://octopart.com/search?q=MABA-010143-FLUX18 This is what Jim used on the v1.42 frontend so it has been tested. I will eventually update the bom to include this as an alternate.
