Hi all, I seem to have a problem with the recording playback component of Tetis. Pressing the record button starts and ends recording as expected and the audio file is saved in the appropriate directory.  If, when the recording is stopped, I use the play option, no audio is heard, just some interrupted and distorted audio.  If I then open the saved .wav file it plays perfectly with an application other than Thetis so the distortion is related to the play option in Thetis.  Any ideas as to what may be the issue or am I seeing a bug here?   Capture1.JPG

Hi Phil,

Try ticking Setup|Audio|VAC1|Bypass VAC for recording playback

Reid,

thanks, I just tried that setting but no change.  Rec/Play has worked in the past and the saved .wav file plays still perfectly with another application.  I'm running your latest Beta release for HL2.

Hi Reid, another thing I've just found, if I check Direct I/Q output to VAC the Play button then works as expected but the Rx audio is no longer audible.

I think the issue is something in my W10 environment, (maybe the VAC) just ran up the same version HL2 build on my laptop and I'm not seeing the same issue.  I'll report back if I manage to track down the exact cause.

Thanks

Phil

I did some more testing and have a solution but no conclusive cause.
I compared the version on my laptop (HL2-Beta 4) and the current B6 version. The beta 4 version setup wasn't quite complete but the record and replay functioned as expected.

I then changed the settings on the Beta 4 install to match the B6 version and the same replay problem surfaced on the B4 version.
Ticking Setup|Audio|VAC1|Bypass VAC for recording playbackmade no difference on either build
.
When the problem occurs the record functions but playback will only work if setup/Audio/VAC1/ Direct I/Q is selected, then the audio recording will play but the Rx audio won't.

Reset of the database on the B4 version immediately corrected the problem.

I then spent some time comparing and selecting the various options but couldn't trigger the problem again on the B4 version.

My conclusion is that some combination of changes to the setup is triggering the problem but I wasn't ble to determine exactly which sequence of changes.

The only solution I found is to reset the database and reprogram the setup.

Further update, I've found the problem and it looks like a bug to me.

I mostly run Thetis in Zoom to band setting (ZTB) and the record play problem is associated with using that setting.

I can reliably induce the problem by Zooming to Band, then after changing frequency in the band, the play function  stops working,  If I then change the zoom to 0.5x the play function works again.

Hello Phil,
I have also been experiencing issues like this. Not sure if what I found is relevant but thought I would pass it along. I am running Thetis v2.10.1 with 7000DLE. I operate with CTUN activated with Panafall selected as my view. I prefer the spectrum frequency remain fixed when a signal is selected. The first thing I found was when playback was selected in RX mode, the display jumps to the center view similar to when CTUN is NOT active. I see the recorded signal but audio is just scratchy noise. If during playback I momentarily go into TX mode, the recorded audio is clear. Basically to hear the recorded signal, I have to momentarily go to TX mode each time I play it. If I turn CTUN mode OFF, the problem goes away completely and works as it should. So there is something associated with ZTB and CTUN. I believe ZTB activates CTUN by default, as least that is what I see. It would be interesting to know if your setup behaves this way.

Interesting observation. I nomally use click tune and have the steps set to 1khz. If I open the recorded audio file with another VLC media player, the audio is fine which shows that the issue is with the replay function and not record.  I’ll check and report back.

My behaviour is the same, if Iuncheck the CTUN option the recording plays correctly when ZTB is enabled.
