Latest gateware rbf file

Hi,

Before upgrading to HL2 Plus I am checking the latest gateware on my HL2. Current firmware 70 and board id 5. I have found latest firmware https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite2/blob/master/gateware/bitfiles/stable/20210730_73p2/hl2b5up_main/hl2b5up_main.rbf .

Is this the latest?

Downloaded hl2b5up which included (I assume 73p2). However when I try to update via Spark message "Programming failed". HL2 is is connected but not powered on in Spark. Any suggestion?

I assume you are attempting an upgrade as per the instructions here: https://github.com/softerhardware/Hermes-Lite2/wiki/Updating-Gateware

Thks Pez, yes downlaoded 73p3 and try to update with Spark but receiving error message with Programming failed.

OK, did you make sure that the radio is NOT running before attempting this? It must be idle. If the HL2 is "in use" it won't accept the gateware file.

Other than trying a few times in a row,  I don't know what to suggest. I see your HL2 has an IPIPA IP address. I don't know if that causes any issue with this or not? (I had a valid DHCP address when I updated mine). 
Hopefully someone else will have some ideas for you. Good luck!

Hmmm do not know what happened but set Favor DHCP and restarted and now I have FW 73 patch 2 and board ID 5. I assume latest version now running.

AFAIK you have to power cycle (not only restart) the HL2 in order to get
the new firmware running. Sometimes this causes confusion.

So after the hardware mod to HL2 Plus I try to update the firmware  gateware 73p3_testing_release_ak4951v3_variant_hl2b5up.

But after +50 tries no luck sofar. 

Procedure:

Connect HL2 Plus to PC with ethernet cable. Start Spark. Right mouseclick Power (HL2 Plus is not powered on) and select Upload new firmware. Select above file in my download folder and hit Program button. But everytime I get Programnming failed. Tried more than 20 time including shut down HL2 Plus after waiting for 1 or 2 minutes,

Firmware stays on 73, patch 2 and board id 5.

Any suggestions?

Christoph, whatr do you exactlly mean with :   you have to power cycle (not only restart) the HL2 

I do a full restart of HL2 Plus (take out the powerplug).

If this is for HL2+ (HL2 Plus) then you should ask in the HL2+ forum.

I don't know how they load firmware/gateware to an HL2+ and it would not be apropriate for us to give you wrong advice.

No. From memory, wrong way around.

Power up HL2 - if it is not powered there is no network connection
between it and the PC.

Now launch Spark but don't press the start button on Spark. Spark should
show the IP address of your HL2 i.e. it has found your HL2.

You should now be able to program the gateware.

New gateware will only become active when you then power down your HL2
and power it back up again.

Ronald, just to be clear, after the programming fails, do you still have a working HL2 but with the original Gateware running i.e. just does not update, or is the HL2 rendered unusable? 

If you have a non-working HL2 have you been through the "force factory image boot" procedure described here in the WIki?

Hi Max,

Yes, I still have a working HL2 with, if I enable via power button Spark is reading firmware 73, patch 2 and board ID 5. Soemhow I think it is not forceing the upload fimrware function. I am running Spark 2.0.963.0.

did a factory reset to 70. After that I did the firrmware upgrade with 73p3_testing_release_ak4951v3_variant_hl2b5up.rbf. It now shows firmware 73, patch 2 and board 5. As per instructions I would expect firmware 74?

@Ronald that board is not a good subject here- 

I saw your post there as well which is why I suggested the reset (short 3 pins on the CW jack and power on for a bit) 

frankly I'm at a loss but will have you note I am removing myself from that group- actually already did and removing that board as well-. ESP after a couple email exchanges lately.

After reading through Steves post (Sorry Steve) wish that had been posted before I made the OOPS!  I jumped in blazing with all the comments and posting around it, before actually reading what you had posted and the reasoning of why.

Hi Ronald. Not at all sure what you mean by "would expect firmware 74"? 74p0 is 10 RX version ONLY, not for TX.

Sorry to question your procedure, but are you 100% sure you downloaded 73p3 Gateware from this page?

Because they all main releases are named exactly the same it's very easy to get them mixed up on the PC. Hope you do not mind me suggesting going back to the download page for 73p3, make 100% sure you download that version and do this by downloading it to a totally new location/folder to be sure it's the one, then try again. What you have described seems to imply you are just trying to flash 73p2 back over itself as this time you did not mention a flash error?

All, thks for the support. This morning I started all over again. 

1. Factory reset top GW70

2. Via Spark tried to install GW72, not successful.

3. Installed Quisk (Windows)

4. In Quisk firmware update to 72, successful

5. After that Quisk firmware update to 74, successful.

So I think something is not 100% working via Spark form me (even tried older versions previous .966.
