I am considering using the Hermes Lite as a separate receive and raking advantage of the terrific noise cancellation in Thetis.  Has anyone successfully set up their Icom Radio and the Thetis software to have their frequencies synchronized  (VFOs to tract eachother)

I don't know about Thetis, but SDR-Consol would work for your needs.
Have a look at https://www.sdr-radio.com/external-radio

Why mess with all of this? Just sell the icom radio and get an amp for home use. That way you can just use the HL2 and not mess with having to rig up a separate TX/RX switch (you'll need to do this so when you TX on the other radio you don't blow out the front end on the HL2). The HL2 has excellent TX audio, even using a regular computer microphone my audio sounds better than on my 705.

But if you insist, then people will often use a program called omnirig to sync frequencies between various radios that have CAT control. I think that HRD also might support this as well, but I'm not sure on the details there.

You can use the RX out jack for the HL2 if your radio has one. Solves the TX into your SDR problem easy.

Be sure the HL2 TX is disabled though, or better use the Aux RF jack  on the optional HL2 IO Board or equivalent connection inside the HL2 on the io header for Rx only so you do not TX into your big rig Rx Out port.

On radios like the K3 with 1st stage buffered IF output for a panadapter, can hook that up to the HL2 rx ant port and never worry about tuning except maybe for slight changes due to mode offsets.

Thetis has 4 CAT port setups, no idea how to use them.  Will have to read up on those.

Each has their own preference but I have to agree here, for HF use at least. Get an LDMOS linear (50W to 100W can be had for very reasonable prices) and just use the HL2 as a full SDR exactly as it is intended to be used. You will save yourself load of grief trying to tie the two together.

If you have to do it then as per previous post SDR Console also works well this way, but I must say that it's a consistent issue that people have problems trying to sync external rig with 100% reliability. Just save yourself the bother and go full SDR and save the Icom for frequencies that HL2 will not reach!

By the way, SDR Console has some pretty amazing NR now also and extremely easy to set up with HL2 in very little time. It's close to "plug and play" after couple mins of the installer and setting up the rig. Never used Thetis so cannot comment.

You did not say which Icom radio you have.  I expect that makes a huge difference.  If it's has a panadapter output or can have one easily installed is a point to consider.  Otherwise you need an external SDR RX/TX switch to share the antenna and cut it off from the HL2 when you TX on the Icom. As long as Thetis supports Hamlib I don't see why keeping the two in sync will be a problem.

I am of the same mind as other posters thinking that getting a 100W amp for the HL2 is perhaps a better way to go.  The SDR antenna switch cost is probably 1/3 to 1/2 way to the cost of an amp.  SSB TX is excellent on HL2.  HL2 is the way to go for digital.  Just CW that is a little tricky.

I'm currently using my HL2 with an RM Italy HLA-305V and I don't think anyone could talk me into switching to a "regular" transceiver.

Hi,
I've been using HL2 as a second receiver to the ICOM-7300 via panadapter for a very long time. With SDRC everything is ok, it has the External Radio function which solves the problem. It would have been good if Thetis also had this function. I use the Thetis synchronized with the 7300 via W2RF software, but it does not work as well as the External Radio from SDRC. Maybe in the future a solution will be found at Thetis as well.

I assume Thetis must support Hamlib. With rigctld you should be able to sync any number of radios and apps together. I don't think IC-7300 has a network interface so rigctld would need to run on the computer connected to IC-7300 over USB I would imagine. Anything else could be anywhere on LAN. DL1YCF has a GUI tool for rigctld.  I don't know if it will compile on a Windows machine.

hey,

you can do this with the DxLab software part "Commander".Use "Thetis" as Radio and Ip address and port setting
If a turn on the radio (7410) the freq of the Hl2 change and its do the same wen i click on the Wf of Thetis..its change mode/freq...
you make use of the TCI server settings under Serial/netwok/Midi Cat --->Network

You can also use SDC (complicated soft..hihi) buth with this programm i run my ic7410 - ic7000 and the HL2 all together...i can use one of the tree rigs all are syncronized

Remark...I use 2  antennas 1 Tx/Rx to the Ic7410 and  Rx antenna to the HL2 - is grounded by the ptt of the IC7410 and this works ok...for "normal" power outputs

Enjoy
