Hermes Lite 2 Assembly - Old School / New School

Hi all

Newest radio in my collection is 1983 so this should be a interesting upgrade for a old time AMer.

I received my HL2, IO bd, Companion bd, and Filter bd.

What is the first Thetis software I should install on my PC?

Will I need to change the versions of Thetis as I add the other accessory boards?

I am going to use a USB to RJ45 cable to connect direct to the PC or is there a prefered way other than connecting direct and why if there is?

First assembly will be just the HL2 and Filter board connected to a Antenna and to the PC. Is there any additional programming or uploading I need to do for the first step turn on?

Few things I noticed, The housing extrution is not cut a a 90 degree angle so the end plate do not fit correctly and flush, one corner always is getting tweeked. Thought about shaving them flat but worries then the housing will be a little to short for the HL2 and Filter bds.

Guess I could always shave it flat and use a gasket if needed but someone should talk to the manufacturer about getting straight cuts.

Also received two screws and two nuts in the housing kit. I assumed it was for the small heat sink but not sure what the second screw is designated for.

Also the screws for holding the end plates are flat head countersink style screws but the end plates are not made to use that kind of screw.

IS THIS ALL NORMAL?

There is a steep learning curve so more traditional amateur radio operators when starting out with a HL2. Documentation is mainly on the wiki:

I did look maybe I missed it but
I saw information on PC that had eithernet port and just connect cable
I saw information on pluging the hermes into the router and then
connecting to it on the network but I did not see anything about using a
USB to Eithernet adapter.
Will it cause any add latency? or other possible tip or trick.

Sorry if I missed it, I did look around first

Hi Josh
Yes just a basic Eithernet to USB then I will use a small eithernet
cable from the adaptor to the Hermes
No 3 port or anything like that just simple conversion between Eithernet
and USB
I will be using the Thetis on the PC

Good to know, Josh, after the initial connection all operated correctly?

But I did try a three port USB with Ethernet adapter and that did not work.  You see ep4 errors.

So my suggestion is to make sure you can return the one you try. 

Under Windows I used the link local setup.  It takes a little longer, 20 seconds, but soon the SDR program should see the radio.

Working great on that isolated network.  No issues.  I use Sparksdr, but I don't expect the software to make a difference.
