Hi,

A Thetis fork named Thetis-RADE with integrated FreeDV/RADE now supports HL2.
Integrated means, as Quisk, no VAC no virtual COM, RADEV1 is integrated into Thetis-RADE, no band noise or Rx, click MOX and you Tx, and it has also a reporter facility.

New release published v2.10.3.19, with focus on HermesLite2 support is here
The HL2 support (thanks to MI0BOT repository) is tested on a single HermesLite2 board so we have not tested if every addon option/pcb works ok (hopefully all work).

Whoever wants to give some feedback or has any issue and needs support, please use the Github standard process of issue reporting and I'll do my best to assist.

Enjoy!

Best regards &73,
Christos SV1EIA

Hi.
I had to look up FreeDV/RADE as I was not aware of what it is.

So you are coding it into MI0BOT’s Thetis for the HL2.  You mentioned not supporting add on boards. Does that include the filter board and I/O board from Makerfabs?

Hi,

Let me describe a bit more.
RADE-Thetis is a continuation of Richie's (https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis) latest v2.10.3.15
On top of that implemented Dave's RADE protocol (https://github.com/drowe67/radae) with the use of Peter's library (https://github.com/peterbmarks/radae_nopy) and the FreeDV reporter from Mooner's freedv-gui (https://github.com/drowe67/freedv-gui)
And after that implemented all Reid's HL2 additions (https://github.com/mi0bot/OpenHPSDR-Thetis)
All those additions/implementations are based on the most recent as of this week's (18 May 2026) on what the above repositories contain.
So, Thetis-RADE has complete ANAN and HL2 support and latest RADEV1 protocol.
I did not say that HL2 option boards are not supported, I mentioned that the testing that I did (for my HL2 in Thetis-RADE implementation) was based on a plain HL2, it only had the N2ADR Filter Board, I did not test the other two boards available, the HL2 I/O Board and AK4951 Companion Board (HL2+), the support for them does exist just myself did not test them in the Thetis-RADE, since it comes from Reid's work they should be ok just need verification with the actual hardware.

Thus, now, both worlds, ANAN/Hermes and HermesLite2 can work natively the latest RADE protocol.

Hi Christos

Wish this fork could be merge with most of the Thetis versions ;- )

Virtual Audio and (virtual com ports forwarding CAT commands) are not necessary anymore, and using FreeDV is straigtforward

As long as Freedv is not TCI compliant, this will remain a really elegant solution.

Thanks for your efforts, Christos

I have installed Thetis-RADE, I can start, database is loaded from Thetis (MI0BOT Version). I see spectrum and waterfall, no TX is possible and I hear no audio via VAC1, as possible in HL2 (MI0BOT).
Did I need a special firmware in my HL2+ ? I have installed the I/O Board and the AK4951 companion board with the latest gateware firmware.
hope anyone can help me

Interesting software,  Christos, it will be possible to specify a different installation path ?
I would like to keep my old Thetis installation and personalized containers and tci config.
Thanks
Luca

Hi Claude,

I had a quick look at your GitHub site and noticed that you state the Alt Rx antenna is not supported by Thetis, it is.

Tick Setup | General | Ant/Filter | Antenna | Antenna Control | RX1 for any band which the Alt antenna supports. You can then switch between antennas with the Rx Ant/Tx Ant button below the VFO sync and VFO lock buttons on the main console.

Cheers

Hi Luca,

Either way Thetis-RADE is a continuation of ramdor's final release 2.10.3.15, so everything does work as before.
You can use the DB manager to keep your old  database backed up and re-used when you feel so, or simply import your old database to a new Thetis-RADE session, this is transparent and well established method from the past.
There is a new release upcoming in a couple of days, the .20, in there all RADE specific enhancements can be totally switched off and be hidden from view so even the appearence will be exactly as the final 2.3.10.15.

Hi Marc,

Long time no see my friend!
I hope you're fine.

I'm using for a year now FreeDV and as soon as RADEV1 got released it immediately caught my attention.
Being in Digital Voice since early FDMDV, WinDRM, and alike, more than 15 years ago, RADEV1 now definitively made a big difference.
It should be inside the 'normal' other modes of any radio, for me it is a breakthrough, you can have noiseless VHF-like QSO's with signals just 6 dB above the band's noise floor.
Flex is already embracing it, so since I used RADEV1/FreeDV with Thetis in my radio, it felt the best approach would be to embedd it in the transceiver's controlling application.
