You should run the HL2 version of Thetis.
To sort out these things you want to try SparkSDR and/or Quisk, these are simpler. Make sure your filter settings are correct.

One other item it when I plug a PTT switch or anything into the PTT jack on hermes it keys up with nothing pressed and yes I did test the switch. Bad jack ?

The ptt jack is both cw key and ptt. Check the wiki for the wiring diagram. Using the cw key is an excellent way to rule out a software problem with power output.
