Problem with CW Keying of HL2 via Thetis MIDI interface

I am experiencing glitches in my keying of the HL2 via MIDI and wonder whether this experience is peculiar to my set up or experienced by other users of MIDI keying.

To provide a little context I should explain that I find the keying to be close to perfect 99.9+% of the time but in the <0.1% I hear the glitches.  These appear to be caused by occasional key down or key up commands not being processed.  This garbles the code.  For example in the case of a missing key down the letter S may be sent as EE (3 dits instead sent as 2 dits with an inter character space).  In the case of a missing key up a letter I may be sent as T (2 dits instead sent as a single dah).

The list of possible causes of this issue is long, so I am working to shorten it as best I can.  While I continue to make slow progress with this, it would be most helpful to know whether other people keying via MIDI have experienced similar issues.
