I'm very keen on getting the Hermes Lite supported by SDR++:

https://www.sdrpp.org/
https://github.com/AlexandreRouma/SDRPlusPlus

I've been on their Discord server chatting with the author Alexandre Rouma to see what it would take for him to accept a pull request to add support for Hermes Metis protocol.

He's very unwilling to add any support without physical hardware.

I even suggested that a fake Metis server (perhaps with a common SDR connected) would be enough for him to integration-test with, but he rejected that idea.

I only have my unit, but if someone has one they can't use and would be willing to ship it to Belgium, we can get support for this wonderful app.

The only other alternative I see is to implement his own remote protocol in a program like OpenwebRX's hpsdrconnector. Then his GUI app could talk to that and wouldn't need any changes.

Can anyone see a good way forward here?
Does anyone have an unused HermesLite or older HPSDR they would offer him?

Clifford Heath.

You can host an OpenVPN server and give access to anyone who wants it. I have such a server running all the time and my friends can use my transceiver without any problems as if they were at my workplace. We also tried the USA-Eastern Europe route. With a ping of about 200 ms, everything worked without problems.
Also Steve (kf7o) wrote somewhere about his experience of using this method. It was he who then controlled my transceiver from the USA. Being in Eastern Europe, then the distance between us was about 9,000 thousand km.

Required Internet connection speed:
PowerSDR:
48 kHz - 7-10 Mbps
96 kHz - 15-20 Mbps

SDR Console:
48 kHz - 5-6 Mbps
96 kHz - 9-12 Mbps

Basic VPN server settings:
-L2 tunnel
-broadcast traffic - enabled
-UDP traffic - enabled
-Compression and encryption of data - disabled
When using a router with an OpenVPN server, it makes no sense to keep an additional computer turned on.

Also, support for the OpenHPSDR protocol has already begun. So far only in the receiving mode.

Hi,
as a developer I know there is no substitute for having the real hardware in front of you.  Emulators are rarely 100%, working on something remotely is far from perfect, you can't see the lights flash or power down and up and typically have to make arrangements to access.  For ongoing support having the hardware available is vital. In the past this group did crowd fund a HL2 for linHPSDR support, this might be a way to go if no one has a spare to give to Alexandre.

Yes, of course it is. That's right. At the moment, the OpenHPSDR protocol is supported by a lot of software. But if there is no transition to FPGA from another manufacturer, then the need for all this software will be minimal. Since the end of the life cycle of HL2. There is a discussion about this in the next thread. But a common effort is needed.

In addition, since the HL2 is primarily aimed at hams I can't see a
strong need for another receive-only SDR solution.   I do like and use
SDR++ which already supports a range of SDR hardware.

No problem. I also agree that SDR++ is worthy of respect. I still meant that the author of the SDR ++ modification, the link to which is in my message, spoke about adding a transfer mode to SDR ++. I say this because I know him personally.

Please check the https://github.com/sannysanoff/SDRPlusPlus

The downloadable builds from CI are accessible through the `Actions` link, build artifacts. You must be logged into the github do download one for your platform.

Have sun!

Hi,

SDR++ author here,
A unit would be greatly appreciated if it's possible.
My financial situation at the moment sadly doesn't allow me to purchase one :/

I know there has been work from third parties to try to implement it but for code quality and maintainability reasons I prefer doing this kind of work myself.
Especially since when I say some hardware is supported, I take personal responsibility for it, which isn't possible without being able to test any time there is a change.

Wonder if SDR++  can be extended to access Radioberry (hermes lite2) via the Pi4 gpio
