The AD9966 is EOL and could be discontinued any day. AD9963 is the recommended replacement. It also samples faster, so a new HL2 could potentially work on 6m.

Has anyone given thought to preparing this upgrade?

(I am working on a new SDR design for VHF&UHF (30MHz-6GHz) using the ADRV9005/6 and a PolarFire FPGA. I would contemplate adding an AD9963 to support HF as well)

My mistake, should have said AD9866, not AD9966.

Sounds like a great plan. I wish I was knowledgable enough to help.

The AD9963 does not appear to have either LNA gain or Rx attenuation controls, so an SDR design using it and matching the HL2's capabilities would require several additional RF components.  73, Ron, n6ywu
