I have a paddle and would like to use this in conjunction with SDRC software generated sidetone.  Seems to work well enough using a straight key directly to the HL2
key jack. I would like to use a paddle now. Is/was this ever possible?

Hi Ian,

AFAIK not directly.

I use an external keyer with the paddle and use its output to drive the key jack.
The key jack PTT input is fed from a footswitch as I'm not keen on semi-breakin.

Hi Ian

Yes, as Neil says, keyer output to the KEY/PTT jack is the answer as there is no keyer software built in to SDRC yet. Using an external keyer the semi-break-in does work very well but like Neil I also have a footswitch wired to PTT input that also works well. See here for CW options with HL2:

It's always useful to own a keyer. I've got this one which is fully compatible with WinKey instruction set. It's very easy to use with all software:

G4ZLP does ship to USA. Or as you are in the USA, maybe you would prefer the original WinKeyer from K1EL?

Both units are excellent.

If you want lower cost option from the Far East:

No idea how well it works. My guess is it's fine. Looks like based on this?

And see here:

Or see this thread for remote keyer (and audio interface?) that is sort of "in progress" on this very group!

Folks, is this project still active? I see no updates in the discussion since June?

So a few options there for you Ian. Good luck with the excellent SDRC. Great choice of software. It's my "go to" for HL2.

Thanks to everyone for all the info.  I do not own an external keyer and will look into some of the remote solutions as the plan is to eventually gift the HL2 to my brother who now lives in rural Indiana and is squandering all of his rfi-free space!  I did end up cobbling something together using the Morse Keyer software, using a serial port as the input for the paddle and one of the control lines in conjunction with a keying cable I had made up to key the HL2.  Works FB for my needs at the moment and didn't cost as I had parts around (am I cheap because I am a ham or a ham because I am cheap?).

tnx es 73
