I would like to know certain issues related with ETHERNET PORT and the Ethernet controller chip.

If by any chance my PC’s Ethernet port is damaged,  will there be any effect to Hemes lite2 Ethernet port

Do we need any extra heatsink on the ethernet chip – I am trying to be extra cautious.

if any other issue pertaining to ethernet port is applicable in terms of safety – PLEASE DO POST HERE as I am aware of many cases of HERMES the Ethernet port IC is damaged

Hi Probir,

As a very happy user of HL2 I find it a bit disconcerting that you state 'PLEASE DO POST HERE as I am aware of many cases of HERMES the Ethernet port IC is damaged'.

I am NOT AWARE that the HL2 ethernet ic is damaged in many cases and I READ EVERY POST ON THIS FORUM.

Would you be so kind as to state where this information has come from?

What do you mean by damaged?

Looking forward to your full response, as I am sure others will be -on THIS forum.

You are mistaking I did not mention Hermes lite But Hermes. Further I do have a Hermes too unfortunately the Ethernet port is not working past few weeks and there is the concern. I will be ordering the phy controller but I know I will have a though time as it has a Ground pad. I know many Hermes user replaced there ethernet chip. Nothing else

Probir,

Many thanks for your speedy response.

I obviously had a mini crisis as I read Hermes as Hermes-Lite and for that I duly apologise.

You also asked for information on the PowerSDR download on openhpsdr. The only one I have - and probable not the latest - is https://openhpsdr.org/download.php

Hi Probir,

The HL2 uses the newer KSZ9031 ethernet PHY. The Hermes uses the older KSZ9021. My understanding was that there were power supply issues for the KSZ9021 on the Hermes. The Hermes-Lite uses a totally different power supply architecture. I can't remember any reports of ethernet PHY issues on the HL2, even after 100s of them are in the field. If anything goes bad, it is the AD9866, X2 or the FPGA, and only rarely. The HL2's ethernet is more sophisticated then openhpsdr. We autosense 100Mbs or 1Gbs. We still have DHCP for a small FPGA, unlike the ANAN 10E.
