Is there a good how to on updating the firmware for the hl2 and where to get the latest version ?

Found a good link by googling, describing how to use a few different SDR-peograms to update. In my case I used Quisk and it has  a tab for updating. But you are right, you also need the text describing the file to use. Not sure if that is on the GitHub for Hermes? 

Sorry that I did not keep the exact links. Stay out the youtube that describe how to update the chip with a special cable, at least that one did not help me. 
Adding "latest rbf file" in your search can give you some links to messages in this group, like: https://groups.google.com/g/hermes-lite/c/M9D6XIbq2io But the link to GitHub is empty in that conversation. 

So, yes, there are good instructions, hope someone can give them to you.

I have found the easiest program for gateware update is SparkSDR. It is very straightforward to install SParkSDR and the gateware upload feature is also very easy.

Download latest gateware 74p2 as per the link given in this thread a short time ago by Nuno.

Well I just try to upgrade from 73.2 to 74.2 with SpakSDR, and the program is completed but still show 73.2

Download the .rbf file, turn off the radio with the button on SparkSDR, mouse on the IP, upgrade, follow the path to the .rbf file, program, erase, program completed, but still 73.2

I'm missing something for sure

Reboot your HL2. Should then  show the correct firmware.

As Duncan says, cycle the power after update (that is, pull the power plug then reconnect).

Hi Group,

The HL2 is shipped with the application image blank, so the factory image is always booted. When you upgrade the gateware, you are writing an application image. You must reboot (power cycle) the HL2 the very first time you write an application image. Subsequent gateware upgrades, which write updates to an existing application image, do not require a reboot.

My HL2 arrived a little over 3 years ago.  I have never done an update, at least not that I recall.  Should I?  Or should I stick with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
