OUTREACH MARKS NEW SHOW AT THE HERITAGE ART GALLERY
July -August, 2006

GALLERIES AT THE GALLERY is the name of a new exhibition at the
Heritage Art
Gallery opening July 24th and closing September 7th in downtown Des
Moines.
A non- profit public gallery located in the north wing of the Polk
County
Office Building at 111 Court Ave., it was once the Des Moines Post
Office and
is on the National Register of Historic Places. Open free to the
public Monday
through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and by special
arrangements on
weekends, it provides space and volunteers for six shows a year
ranging from
juried competitions, invitational, art association group shows, one
person
shows and student exhibitions.

The mission of the current show, GALLERIES AT THE GALLERY, is to
showcase
the wide range of artists represented by local fine art galleries. The
public
may be unfamiliar with the number and diversity of galleries and the
artists
they represent. We believe that patrons of the arts should be
encouraged to
"buy local" and support the artists and the businesses that represent
them.

The galleries participating in GALLERIES AT THE GALLERY include: Arte
Gallery, From Our Hands, Karolyn Sherwood Gallery, Kenneth Paul
Gallery, Moberg
Gallery, Olson-Larsen Galleries, Padma Gallery, Tandem Brick Gallery,
and 2AU.

In naming this show, suggestions from our volunteers included
"Galleries
Galore", "Galleries Pastiche,"" Something Borrowed", "Galleries On The
Town",
and "Galleries on the Go" to name a few; all titles that illustrate
our
purpose. We are combining the spirit of our volunteers with the
entrepreneurial
forces, creativity and knowledge of the business women and men who own
art
galleries in the Des Moines area. We hope the public will find in
this show not
only the pleasure of seeing, in one place, a diversity of art work,
but will
discover the exciting inventory of these and many other galleries in
the area.

John Busbee, a writer for ART SCENE MAGAZINE and a Gallery board
member said
of this effort: "This is going to be a wonderful surprise for the
Greater
Des Moines Area. Think of it - because of our unique, independent and

non-profit position, we are able to join the current gallery forces in
our area to
showcase what they and the artists they represent mean to the
community. That,
in my mind, is WAY COOL"

There will be a reception for the show on Sunday, July 30th from 1-3
p.m.
Admission for this and all events at the gallery are free.
