Hi Everyody
This must be the quietest group in all of history. Surely some-one has
got some news to keep everybody interested. I have actually had
another bout in hospital but home today, so just sitting around
looking pretty. I am getting 4 does in kid this season. How many are
you? It would be interesting to know.
I came home to a nice mohair cheque. I generally have to save my
mohair for a couple of years to be bothered to send it. but you can
send small amounts. It's up to you. I only send in what I call my
grottiest mohair as I keep the rest.
For fine hair lightt kemp I got $7.50 per kg.micron 32.4 soft cots
$9.80, micron 30.5 light stain $7.23 micron 31.7
Other prices quoted were: the fine kid range was $18.00 to $20.30
micron 26 to 29
Akid was $19.00 micron 25.4 Bkid was $17.10 micron 25.3 Ayg $15.10
micron 29.6
The stronger hair micron 35.3 brought $6.70
there were a lot more prices than that, but I thought you might be
interested. It pays to breed fine mohair. It's easy to breed stronger
hair, just keep an eye out for the finer ones to breed from then you
will be ok. I've been doing that for 30 something years. You might
find it hard to cull but it has to be done.
If you want to sell your mohair to AMMO the nexr closing dates for
receivals are 29/6/12 and 28/9/12
Well that is it for the day. I will go and find something else quiet
to do
Regards
Val

Good to hear from you Val,

Things are always busy here on Kilfeera Rd.  My  three goats will have two new companions soon as I am buying two pregnant does from Lill in June.

I have 5 mohair fleece to sell but thought it best to get another few fleece to make the transporting of the fleece more cost effective.  By the end of the year I will have 5 more fleece to send off to AMMO - unless I can find  local buyers within the NE area ie. craft  groups .
haven't researched this yet as I am flat out with my building plans and organizing for the sale of my house.

The girls have been calling a bit lately even though they are well feed with good roughage and green pasture.  The two older girls  seem to have smiles on their faces and are wagging their tails furiously - I think it is mating time but  there is no buck !  So they have been eyeing off Osca the labradoodle but he hasn't shown any interest  !

Could all this tail wagging and calling be a sign of the girls being ready to mate ?

Thanks for the information on mohair prices.

cheers Helen

Dear Helen

Your girls are certainly in season.  Tail wagging is the sign. sometimes they will call out and sometimes not. Why not take your girls to a buck seeing as you are picking up does from Lill.  Sounds like you don't want to be bothered with a buck.  So that would be the way to go. Glad to see everything is coming together for you. It takes time to get things organised sometimes. Looks like a good day coming up here
