Hi all,
Hope you are all well. Roger, sorry to hear about your misadventure with the lime. Hope it is all cleared up now.

After a lot of thinking, I've decided to sell my herd which I am sad about, but I think it has to be done. Lots of reasons, but mainly the fact I am am running out of room here and I want to focus on the cows, and they are a lot of work with hoof trimming monthly and bathing every week. It's been so wet here that we've had to do it often to keep them from being in pain.

So, if anyone is interested, I have 4 does about 4 years old, 1 doe born last year, and 3 wethers born last year.

Take care and enjoy the good weather. Glad to see it that's for sure.
Cheers,
Jackie

G'Day Everyone,

Jackie this is sad news indeed. I know you would have thought long and hard
about the decision. It's funny because we are trying to sell our Dexters to
make room for more goats. You're not interested in two heifers are you?

All the best for selling your goats. I hope they find a good home. If you
don't have any luck we may be interested in two of your does Lizbeth and
Fritzi. Sorry we really can't take any more as, like you, we are running
out of room. We have 6 does pregnant and due to start kidding next week. If
however you find a buyer for all the does, then don't keep them for us. We
had an accident with our dairy goats. The plan was two kids and we have
ended up with 5. Just more pressure on space.

We are heading off to the Dairy Expo in Korumburra tomorrow. If you are
planning to go we may see you there. Failing that, feel free to call in
sometime.

For everyone else, it would be good to know how things are going. Like Val
said a few months ago, it seems we have lost touch with who is doing what.

All the best to everyone

Regards

Lill

Dear Jackie
Yes that is sad. It is very hard to find breeders to keep the breed going. My problem is I can't keep a lot of goats anymore. Not that I've run out of room, just run out of energy.
I imagine it is footscald your goats have. Have. you checked with the vet in case it is footrot. In that case they can have an injection. If you have read my book I wrote what I did for the problem. After treating their feet move them to a new paddock. I. used to put a dish of disinfectant to dip my shoes in before I went into their paddock so as not to carry the germ. I am happy to say I haven't had footscald for years not even in the wettest weather. So it is possible to get rid of it
The only time my goats limp is if their hooves get too long, which is more often than it should be as I can' t trim their hooves anymore, which means I have to employ somebody for $25 an hour.

don't forget to register the doe born last year so as she can be sold as an Australian Heritage Angora. The more we have registered the better it is

Hi Val
Problem is that I don't have a lot of paddocks to use that stay reasonably dry over winter. The sheep don't seem to have any foot problems and the vet has said it is foot scald not footrot. I can keep on top of it if I soak them in zinc sulphate for 5 minutes, but that has to be done weekly, and as you know, goats only do what goats want to do, and thats not standing in a bath for 5 minutes, so it's always hard work.

How do I register the doe? I don't have one of those tattoo things. They do have an ear tag with my PIC number.

Hope you are well.
Cheers,
Jackie

Dear Jackie
Jan should answer this one about the registering but I think you will have to tattoo them and seeing as you haven't the tattoo letters for your stud and numbers it would be too expensive to. have to buy them seeing as you aren't going to continue breeding them, so we will probably just have to loose this one.I know what it is like getting goats to stand in a bath. I think I nearly gave up then too. Are you getting this dreadful weather?

with someone's permission, like Val's Jackie could use their tattoo set, to make it a quite distinctive goat, put a really usual number int he number ear, so if Val uses something like 123 then go for somethign like 999123

cheers
