SoI get it ...
Profit is everything and always will be because otherwise there is NO reason to sell anything.
Here goes a few calculations to some people who honestly think it is a good Idea to sell a DVD for $5.00 (anything under that is completely useless you will see soon)
Say a DVD sells for $5.00 and you are a new seller. Great you got a sale but that doesn't mean you are walking away with anything but work on your hands.
Ebay charges 12% for a DVD
So now you stand to make anywhere from .06 to .80 cents depending on the factors above. You have to ask your self was it worth it to price compete with a major seller and continue to drop prices with them until your item finally sells? No not at all because even though it shows you made .06 to .80 cents I did not include the (3 other key fees) that aren't really included in when a new seller or even a seasoned seller tends to think about.
In conclusion it is not worth it to sell any DVD or CD under $5.00 ever as you will always lose money and many new sellers pull out their Paypal money as soon as they ship the item ending up with a bill at the end of the month and don't understand why they owe and there is no money in the account. I would go as far as saying it is not even worth selling any common DVD or CD on here for under $10.00 but with the abundance of the same exact item in several different conditions by 1000's of sellers trying to price compete with you the buyer will always make out.
Say USPS Damages that DVD or The buyer swaps out their scratched one for yours and opens a case?
1. you are billed with a return shipping rate there is another (up to $3.00 charge) you may as well let them keep it.
I have been on here since 2002 when you could have made a profit off of a $5 item but right now is not that time and it won't ever be again. Do not price juggle just pack that item up into a junk box and have a yard sale because if you bought that DVD for $1.00 in the past and even sell it at a yard sale minimum price you set at 1.50 or 2.00 or even as high as 3.00 you are making a profit and nearly laying it on a table for someone to buy it and you did so much less work to sell it.
I hope this helps everyone and I hope new sellers find this and say well he does have a point. I hope also Big Sellers find it and try to argue with me about profit because it is them and the G...D Will who are basically taking Ebay and driving all good sellers out with less than good item condition items.
Why are you paying the shipping fee? The buyer pays shipping. If you want to do FREE SHIPPING, then you start the dvd at 8.00. Anyway, dvds are dead. Very few people want them. I have seen them at yard sales for a buck and I don't even stop to look since my new car doesn't have a cd player.
By selling it for that few dollars higher now you get classified in listings way into search results as well there are benefits by selling an item with Free Shipping ( 1. Buyer can't rate your shipping cost 2. Your search results get a minor boost by those key words 3. Your listing isn't seen as fast as someone who is looking for a DVD competing with every other seller at their minimum price.) Buyers hunt for that one tab ( Buy it now Lowest + Shipping )
So people that are close to trs and are missing it by a handful of sales shouldn't sell nothing less than $5? sorry but if I was that close and needed another sale or 2 I would sell a $10 bill for $5.00 better yet I would sell that dvd that is laying around to get me over the hump.
Makes no logical sense to take work out of your life and spend time on something that you are trying to make a better "stats" to your profile. I would rather spend time on other things like spending time with my kid, taking a walk outside or basically anything then to literally waste time handing something over on 0 profit so that you can build a company profits and you work for them for nothing. I am a profit seller ...otherwise I would not be on here because I do it for extra money not my general income. Time to me is everything and if it isn't to those who want to work for nothing then we tend to disagree. If someone gave me a job and said you are going to grow my company but you will not be making a paycheck, do you really think I would sign up for that job?
Some people do it by volume. Other people are hoping for multiple sales that they can ship together. Other people have costs associated with removing stock, so selling at a loss or with no profit may still be beneficial to them.
There is always money to be made in the margins even in a declining market. There are still dvds and cds that sell quickly for good prices, so if you can cherry pick a source that sells them cheaply, you can make money.

Nothing to do with it looking "better". TRS get a postage discount (only 3% but every bit helps) so yes, it's worth it for a couple of low profit sales to make TRS consistently. Also dvds have to still be one of the EASIEST things around to ship. When it sells you slip it into a padded mailer slap a label on it and away it goes.
When I was a lower volume seller, I would sell some things at a low profit margin because I needed sales for TRS status or to up my volume to cushion my shipping scans when I sent first class envelopes more.
I used to look in wonder and amazement at some of the CDs and DVDs in my best friend's collection. How could he let them get in such a state? "Dude, treat them with more respect" I'd say. Then I had children, and found my CDs and DVDs were perfect replacements for frisbee toys, coasters and anything else they could think of. (See also: Never Pay for a RedBox DVD Rental Again)
Recently, I found several of my favorite music CDs and movies were unplayable due to some innocent playtime fun. Kids will be kids, there's little you can do to avoid that (especially if your CDs and DVDs are at kid-height). But before I reluctantly bought replacements, I figured I had nothing to lose by going to the web and finding remedies. If they worked, great. If not, I had lost nothing anyway.
I had heard of toothpaste, which was the first remedy I tried. But I found other methods, too. Below are the results of my exploration, complete with my own experience with the remedy. Remember, I can't guarantee results. If your scratches are very deep you're probably out of luck. But if a few scratches are giving you some skipping or the CD/DVD is unreadable, this may save you a trip to your local Best Buy.

I can't wait to go try the Brasso. I have three kids... My CDs, and theirs, have paid a dear price. I'm glad I kept all the CDs that I couldn't fix with regular old CD scratch fixer. (I don't think that stsuff has ever worked for me)
After reading about using Brasso on scratches, I searched the house for some. My sons new Call of duty 5 was badly scratched on the xbox. I tried everything and couldnt find any brasso, but thought, cars and T Cut. T Cut is a liquid based solution used to remove scratches from cars. So I tried this as a last resort. It was either tcut or another 40 spent. T Cut did the trick, small amount on a soft cloth, circular motion on the disc and let it dry for a couple of mins. Then simple polish off in circular motions. Game works perfectly now. I would advise this as a last resort
FIRST - Take an ordinary candle and light it (preferably white or red wax, I have not tried this with other colors and do not know the effects of color on the end result). Wait for some of the wax to melt, then p[our it out onto a dish (or anything else, as long as you can use it afterward). This softens the wax, and makes it easier to spread onto the disk.
THIRD - Once the disk has been completely covered in wax, take a paper towel or soft cloth (a cloth may be difficult to clean), and begin wiping off the excess wax, once again from the inside outward. You will need to apply a small amount of pressure to wipe it off, and to rub it into the grooves of the scratches (please don't break your disks!). Once most of the excess wax is gone, begin rubbing in circular motions all over the disk (this will not scratch the disk, as the wax now acts as a protective layer). Continue until any visible wax is gone and you are left with a nice reflective sheen.
I hope this works for you, it has worked for me on numerous occasions. You may need to do this more than once, depending on the state of your disk. This has worked for my original XBox game "Sid Meier's Pirate's", which was in a condition where it would not even start. It now runs wonderfully. And this has almost worked for my Nintendo's "Super Smash Bros. Brawl", which has the "ring of death". I have only done this to it once and already it plays, but it still has trouble with certain stage selections. Again, you may need to repeat this process for better results.
Great tips. On the kid thing though, ever heard of teaching them NO followed with the reason - then disipline if necessary? Our grandkids come over. I have high end stereo components on the floor. My wife has ceramics on lower shelves. They never touch them, because they are taught not to. When we had ours, my mother said "I'll have to move everything up out of reach" No you won't. They will be taught the rules. Try it. They will respect you MUCH more. BTW, they were also taught that food stays in the kitchen.
