After listening to the recording from 4/21 twice, I thought I would
mention a couple of others that didn't get brought up on the call.

A couple of obvious ones: Onions and of course GARLIC! :-) Use as a
food, herb, talismans/amulets and even their flower essences and
homeopathic remedies - works quite well.

Hot and Spicy Pepper (i.e. Black Pepper, Cayenne, etc.) - other spice
cabinet ones are Cumin, Basil and Sage.

I find that Thistle can be used as protection - and for those of you
in the Southwest - nearly every type of Cactus would also qualify!
And how about those nasty pods with Castor? ;-)

Things that will clot blood will also make a good protection: Yarrow
and Shepherd's Purse particularly come to mind here. The herbs work
and even the flower essences. Red Clover and Dill could be used when
the protection is needed more in the mental realms. And personally -
I find Valerian (herb or flower essence) very grounding. Yarrow is
pretty awesome, since their stalks were the original I-Ching, so
Yarrow is also divinatory and protective :-)

In fact for grounding plants - has anyone noticed that the common
weedy stuff in valleys works generally in this direction, while the
plants up in the woods tend to work on the higher chakras or the
spiritual aspect? This is not a hard and fast rule, but I can tell
with flower essence work that (as a for instance) Dandelions will
release muscle tension in the body and nourish it (grounding), and
Fairy Slippers (different from Lady's Slippers) open perception on the
heart and spirit level to allow love.

For poisonous plants - to be used for protection energetically:
Nightshade/Belladonna, Digitalis, Hemlock (the umbel, not the tree),
Henbane, Dogbane and Thornapple come immediately to mind, and I know
there are others!

Would love to see what others think and if we left anything off the
list! :-)

i was thinking of viburnum also. "devil's shoestring" specifically
refers to viburnum alnifolium...some other protective species are
viburnum opulus and viburnum prunifolium. used as a talisman the
twigs are used to protect oneself or one's home.

AH, what a good idea! I know Cramp Bark (Viburnum trilobum) could
substitute if that is what you have! Thanks Rachael!

One that I don't think was brought up is a tree Quaking Aspen.A Very
good protection tree,or was for me at least.Several years ago i was at
the park and felt very shaken dreading dealing with a troubled family
member.
I felt called to sit under a tree, and with my back to the tree I heard
a sound like a rattle the wind through its leaves,I heard to take one
of the leaves and call on quaking Aspen when I needed protection and
later that week I did and felt a powerful force protecting me and
comforting me.Doing a bit of research I read it was considered a Fairy
tree(as all are :) A few weeks later i felt called to sit with the
tree again and when I went to it,it was gone.
I looked,checked,double,triple checked landmarks and everything.There
was no stump,no disturbed ground. truly a magical tree. <3

Peace,
Gary
