kafka tool is most likely using the hostname to connect to the broker and cannot reach it. You maybe connecting to the zookeeper host by IP address but make sure you can connect/ping the host name of the broker from the machine running the kafka tool.
In my case, I got to know when I used Kafkatool from my local machine, tool tris to find out Kafka broker port which was blocked from my cluster admins for my local machine, that is the reason I was not able to connect.

The "producer" is the process responsible for putting data into our Kafka. Kafka comes with a command-line client that will take input from a file or from standard input and send it out as messages to the Kafka cluster. The default Kafka sends each line as a separate message.

Hi @rmoff within the project KNet there is the tool KNetCLI. It is available in NuGet as a dotnet tool package ( NuGet Gallery MASES.KNetCLI 1.3.1): it replicates all shell commands available in Apache Kafka (see KNetCLI for a simple explanation).
For example, it became useful to us to increase partition count of existing topics. Doing it through Confluent UI is currently impossible, and doing it through Kafka .sh scripts looked too difficult. So we made a short shell script that does it by running kafkactl in Docker.
kafkacat is a fast and flexible command line Kafka producer, consumer, and more. Magnus Edenhill, the author of the librdkafka C/C++ library for Kafka, developed it. kafkacat is great for quickly producing and consuming data to and from a topic. In fact, the same command will do both, depending on the context. Check this out:
Note that piping data from stdout to kafkacat, as we did above, will spin up a producer, send the data, and then shut the producer down. To start a producer and leave it running to continue sending data, use the -P flag, as suggested by the auto-selecting message above.
