There are three models of the Officejet 4500's so I would like to include the driver information for all of them to cover them all. Below I will provide links to download the drivers and software for your model of OJ 4500.
2nd Step: Click on your model to download and install the Full Driver and Software. You will need to choose your operating system and click "Next" and then you will select "Driver" and Download:
This is the link for the drivers that came in the CD, plz goto the link and select your operating system, ad then download the full feature drivers on your hard disk, that will install the software for your printer...
I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I understand that you have an HP Officejet 4500 printer and it does not install and there's a message saying "The specified service does not exist as an installed service." I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I was able to install the application HP solution center, but it can't open because the printer is not installed correctly, it says 'HP solution center canot run because your device installation is not complete'
When I was doing the intallation, I was geting the message, select the printer you want to install, bu the box was empty, and if I clicked on 'My printer is not listed', I was just going back to the same message.
If I add the printer in the Control Panel ->Add a device, I'm able to add the printer and I can print, but the HP solution center is not working, it says 'HP solution center cannot run because your intalation device is not complete'
By trying to install the app that you mentioned, I end up on this link OJ_AIO_4500_G510g-m_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe, that allowed me to download this dirver for the printer Officejet 4500, and this installed the HP solution center and the printer in the network.
Somehow, this driver find the printer in the network, even though I had a warning, something about not detecting the status of the printer, I continue with the installation and now I have the printer and the HP Solution Center working just great.
When I inserted the installation disk, it said that I should go to the OS X preferences panel and choose Printers, and add my printer there, because OS X uses its own printer driver installations. But when I chose the printer in the drop down menu, it said that the "driver is available for download from Apple. Do you want to download and install now?". I clicked "donwload and install" but after it looked for the download it said that the driver I am looking for is currently not available on the Software-Update-Server.
I can select the printer in that drop down menu but then it slides in a little window saying "configuring "OfficeJet 4500 G510n-z [...]" and after that it says that "The software for this printer Is available from apple. Do you want to download and install?" I can click cancel or download and install but when I click cancel, I did not achieve anything. I still cannot print. And if I click load and install, it's looking for the software via software update (I guess) but then it cannot find the software on the server and I'm back at the beginning.
Thank you both this is helping me, the HP printer driver update only showed in the app store as an update once, I've done clean installs about 2-3 times since then, but nothing through the app store. Here's come my dumb ?, how do I know if' I'm running the HP printer driver 2.1.1? I think I'm going to follow your steps, but the fact that it come through the app store once is bugging me, I've reconfigured my software update to alert me when there's an update....no dice, I didn't even know I had 10.8.1 until one day I thought to check for updates.....see my username.
Hi Wertzu, your post helped me before. for some odd reason my MBA won't recognize my hp printer as bonjour or wireless for that matter, I have to keep plugging in the usb and resetting the router and the printer. If I delete the hp folder will it trigger the update for hp or should I get it from the link on this page? Thanks.
You need to download the drivers package from the link above. Apple's servers wont let you download the update via software update. But before installing the package you need to delete the hp folder in Macintosh HD > Library > Printers
Where do I click on "this solved my question"? The same place as usual? I just deleted the hp folder and am about to do the update. If you look at my post above and don't ask why it did come through to the app store as a software update. Thank you much for the prompt reply
I learned a little trick for both the app and itunes store, hit command and r at the same time, it's almost like a reset. I'm sick of downloading updates from the apple website so am trying to be patient but this one came faily quick as for how I got the update from #3, no idea, I don't ask or research, just happy I got it. Good luck and lmk if you need help.
In the Print & Scan settings pane of System Preferences, right click in the empty white area of the printer list. Select the only item in the popup menu: "Reset printing system...". It will warn you that it will delete all of your installed printers. Answer yes, then after it's done, reboot (this seems to be a necessary step).
I have an older printer which still in good condition, but the driver no longer works after updating to Mac Monterey. Does anyone know a way around this? I tried downloading a new driver and it won't install. I hate to buy a new printer if I don't have to. Thank you.
There is an HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update download from Apple. The System Requirements say Not compatible with macOS v12 and newer. A number of HP Officejet 4500 versions (using a driver 3.3.2) are mentioned in the no longer updated article Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support. There have been a few reports about use of this download even under macOS 12 Monterey (for other models), but that would be entirely experimental in this case. It may not work at all, and an installation may be impossible. If you decide to test anything, make sure that backup copies of all important files (such as documents, photos, et cetera) have been made. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.
Sorry you're having this problem. I would first contact HP and ask them when and if a new driver will be released for your printer. If there will b none, then you can check at the site below where reliable volunteers write drivers for many older printers. There may be one there which will work for you.
