We have a request to do an exit check for warfarin if they have been on it during their stay.  (our docs have to reorder daily based on the INR value)  The iform that launches has options of 1.  placing the order, 2.  stating the iForm never has to fire again because they are taking the patient OFF warfarin, or 3.  a temporary side step because "i'm not the doc that deals with this" or "the INR result isn't available yet".  However, the last option lasts a WHOLE HOUR as an 'active order' and that is not acceptable.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  We are really in a bind.  We already are using an entrance check.

Hello,

If you are using a specific order for step number 3, you can have it auto complete in 1 minute after it orders. The clock does not start ticking until after the order session. That way, you give the "I'm not the doc" an easy way out, but can have it fire again as soon as another ordering session occurs.

If you're already using an "Entrance Check," have you considered putting a formless VGR in there that uses Active Order Awareness to look for that "defer order" to DC it?  Then, at your exit check, the order will not be active and would trigger appropriately.

Seems similar to the Exit Check for Foley's... I think this would still require you to set auto complete to 1 minute or offset the duration of the order by 12 hours.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  I thought, even when the order is set to auto complete, it hangs out for an entire hour.  We have it set to auto complete in three minutes.  I'll retest that.  The info to dc that order on entrance check will be a good option too.  I really appreciate the suggestions.
