Awesome idea for a group!

I had my first henna tatoo in Minnesota at a Renaissance Fair, and
since then have been doing henna for friends and myself. I buy packets
of henna powder at a local Indian grocery store, and mix it myself.
(hot coffee/black tea, eucalyptus, honey, lemon juice) My ingredients
could be considered a little excessive, but it works well and smells
wonderful!

Hope to see more in this group in the future!

WAOW hot coffee black tea, lemon & eucalyptus? (i should try this!)
I've always done lemon juice, eucalyptus & honey for a simple mix.
Have you tried other oils?

I also sometimes use tea tree oil. I'm not sure if it has any greater
effect, but it does smell nice!

I love tea tree oil, and yes the results of henna paste can be darker.
But I've had a couple of friends get red rashes around their henna
designs because they are sensitive to strong essential oils.
My favorite is Cajeput because it smells so good!

I do always ask if the people I do henna for are allergic or sensitive
to either tea tree or eucalyptus. But I should try Cajeput! I'm always
open to different recipies.

Of all oils to use with henna, eucalyptus is the one to use without
worry. All others are to watch when applying it on many people.
Cajeput is my favorite, not for the output in color, but in its scent.
It also gives a wonderful, dark and rich henna tattoo color.

do you have a henna paste that will look just like a real tattoo?

Hi Jonnywood
Henna paste is a mixture of henna powder and lemon juice. The results
depend on how the mixture is made. Natural henna is always red/brown
in color, which do not allow it to look like a real tattoo. You can
use Body Paints to get real tattoo colors. To find body paints, you
may want to look at http://www.tattoo-me.com/bodypaint.htm
The same site has henna paste at http://www.tattoo-me.com/hennapaste.htm
There are many other supplier of henna paste out there. I know what
makes them different is that most henna paste products are made in
India, and most henna artists make their own. To buy henna paste in
the US, I suggest purchasing from a US-manufacturer for safety
reasons.
