Content: This game is jam packed with content with lots of areas to explore (even lots of underwater areas!), tons of cutscenes, voice work, side quests, training, wildlife, game mechanics from community boards and soul emblems to skill trees and support characters etc. There is A LOT to do in this game. No question this game has more several times more content than previous DBZ RPG games such as Attack of the Saiyans (my favorite DBZ game of all time), and the Legacy of Goku series. Speaking of which, it seems Attack of the Saiyans has inspired this game in several ways (just look at the world map or how the dragon balls are gathered and work for example, but that discussion is for another day).
Music: Music is pretty good and true to the Japanese style of Dragon Ball. It can get repetitive and I do wish some of the action tracks were better but the relaxing or exploring music is pretty spot on as dragon ball.
Graphics: Graphics are actually pretty impressive. I appreciate the visual detail of the cities and key areas such as the Kame House, Capsule Corporation, etc are well done. The world is broken down into several "levels" or "areas" where you are given a wide area to just fly around and check out and I was impressed by the visual direction (example the northern ice area and the land of the kais). Very true to the dragon ball universe. I wish the orbs were not literally everywhere on the map given that they are almost useless compared to how many you get in a random battle because they can ruin the visual appeal of certain areas. I also wish they populated the underwater areas and certain areas more (ex planet namek) as they were clearly rushed/ not enough attention was given to them.
Well lets just get to the side activities then. Flying around and exploring can at first be a little difficult due to the unique controls but once you get used to it its pretty fun! Upgrading and using your car is again poorly explained but it can be fun doing time attacks or just messing around with it. Baseball and other activities are fine. The side quests are actually pretty good other than the "gather me 3 ingredients" ones. I enjoyed quests like "sins of the father" where future trunks learns more about how his father was, or ones where Yamcha is dating multiple girls, etc. It is great fan service and the subquests really expanded the universe for fans of DBZ.
Using the time machine has its issues (being overleveled and one hit past bosses) but overall I like it as a means of replaying your favorite parts of the game. Gathering the dragon balls was fine but had to done way too many times to get all the subquests of rematching old bosses. Fighting the formidable foes on each stage (enemies in a set location that are glowing red) was fun but the random encounters were not. I would be trying to gather some materials when a random enemy would pop up, I would have to fly far away to escape (another poorly explained mechanic) and then I would have to return to pick up my materials. So annoying!
As explained in our How To Find and Collect Dragon Balls guide, you will need to collect a total of seven dragon balls in order to be granted a wish by the mighty dragon, Shenron. Among these wishes, you will have the option to resurrect any past boss that you have defeated. While fighting the boss won't necessarily provide you with any new rewards, it will however provide you with plenty of EXP that can be used to train up your character. These battles won't be easy, so it is highly recommended that you prepare yourself with plenty of healing items.
Bringing a high-level party to the fight will ensure victory as well. When facing the boss having three characters battling the powerful enemy will help to chip away at his large health pool. Be sure to utilize the powerful special attack of your team in order to deal the most amount of damage possible. But only use this technique when you are sure it will hit Mira. Until then, make use of fast melee attacks in order to slowly deplete the secret boss's large sum of health. After defeating Mira, players will be rewarded with a cut scene signaling the end of the fight as the final boss floats away towards the sky. Players will be awarded handsomely for their efforts and the bragging rights to say they defeated the powerful Mira in Dragonball Z: Kakarot.
