I'm perfectly happy with XP.
Do I need to register every 6 months with authorities because of that?

heck no. I've used xp myself and see no reason to switch. I looked at
what's new in windows 7 and vista, and nothing really impressed me.
Most everything new can be added with free or inexpensive addons. Like
truecrypt for full disk encryption, for example.

I still use 2000 on an old laptop. I don't play any games on it and
mostly do office work on it. Why? It runs very responsively.
