Realtek Sound problems

Hello,
My sound does work on my Dell Inspiron with Windows XP, but only about
a third of the time. I also have the latest Realtek sound driver. My
computer & internet connection runs fast nearly all of the time, but
when I reinstall the driver it is usually agonizingly slow, & thus
does not get reinstalled. This Realtek sound card & driver has been
nothing but a pain ever since I obtained this computer 3 years ago.
My question is why does it work for a few days & then need to be
reinstalled?

Try to reinstall it while your Windows update is closed.
Becouse of the signature problem it might have updated your driver with a
worhtless one.
