BaxterHigh is in open competition with Riverdale High School, the secondary school of nearby Riverdale, a town across Sweetwater River. In addition to playing against each other, football and cheerleader teams from their respective schools have traditions and pranks to carry on during "Hell Week".[1]

With Principal Hawthorne in charge, the school was intolerant of the needs and rights of students belonging to minorities of gender, race and interests outside the football team. Tired of suffering this conduct, Sabrina and her friend Rosalind decided to directly oppose the principal by founding the WICCA club, after Principal Hawthorne had denied Roz the possibility of founding a Young Black Panther club.[2] One of the club's first challenges was to be able to read The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, a novel that the teacher didn't consider fit. Rosalind tenaciously manages not only to obtain permission to read it in class, but also to remove the ban from several books that had been removed from the school library during what librarian Mrs. Curtis refer to as "the book purge". [3]

Upon Hawthorne's death, Mary Wardwell become the new principal even though in reality it was Madam Satan, who had assumed her identity to manipulate Sabrina towards the Path of Night. Under the new direction that supports WICCA, students are more serene and can fight their battles with allies backing them up. Like when Theo manages to join the basketball team thanks to the help of Principal Wardwell and his friends who support his talent and, most of all, his transition.[4]

But Baxter High is not just a battleground for acceptance and education. When the Greendale Thirteen return from the afterlife to take revenge on mortals and witches alike and summon their Crimson Avenger to destroy everything in its path, the local Spellman witches raise the winds and gather citizens in the school with the excuse of sheltering themselves from severe weather.[5]

Washington County Schools will provide a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment, which challenges all students to achieve their own maximum potential. In partnership with the family and community, the Washington County School System will offer a diverse array of educational experiences that will provide all students the opportunity to acquire basic academic skills and promote their healthy social, physical, and intellectual growth.

Washington County was formed in 1776 from Fincastle County and was named for George Washington, who was then commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. Throughout the past two hundred years, parts of Washington County have become Russell, Lee and Wythe counties. With the incorporation of the town of Goodson as the independent city of Bristol in 1890, Washington County assumed its present size.

The William N. Neff Center for Science & Technology opened in 1975 to serve as the training center for Washington County high school juniors and seniors. The Washington County Technical School is a Career and Technical Center that serves students from Abingdon High, Holston High, John S. Battle High, and Patrick Henry High Schools. The Washington County Technical School, which opened in 1938, provides the skills needed for entry-level jobs in local industries and the necessary background for career advancement and continued education. The Washington County Adult Skills Center, which offers a wide variety of job training skills for adults, has also been serving students since 1938.

Since 1968, all of Washington County Schools have been a member of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS). We are proud of our record with SACS and with the merging of the elementary and secondary commission into SACSCASI we hope to see that it continues for many years to come.

The seven elementary schools include Abingdon, Greendale, High Point, Meadowview, Rhea Valley, Valley Institute, and Watauga. Damascus, Glade Spring, E.B. Stanley, and Wallace are the four middle schools. The four high schools include Abingdon, John S. Battle, Holston, and Patrick Henry. The vocational schools include the Washington County Technical School and William N. Neff Center for Science and Technology. NOTE: Counselors do not make schedule changes at Peachtree Ridge High School. We work with students on academic advisement and course selections. Students are encouraged to listen for announcements from the Curriculum Office regarding schedule change procedures.

During Spring semester counselors will meet with every Junior student. During the appointment, students are apprised of remaining graduation requirements (credits, courses, and assessments) which must be fulfilled for on-time graduation. The discussion will also include information on postsecondary planning, and provide an opportunity to address any questions you have at that time. Students will receive a copy of their Junior Application for Graduation to take home to their parent/guardian.

Counselors meet with students to assist with educational, career, emotional, and behavioral needs. School counselors provide short term and/ or crisis counseling. Counselors meet with students individually based upon student, teacher, and parent requests. Each counselor's case load is approximately 450 students. Students will be seen in an appropriate timely manner dependent upon the caseload and commitments of each counselor.

The PRHS Counseling Department provides many services and programs to students, parents and faculty alike to assist in achieving academic success and in exploring options for the future. The PRHS Counselors are assigned to students according to their last name and grade level and work with students individually, in small groups and through core curriculum lessons. Informational night meetings are provided for students & parents throughout the school year.

Counseling groups are offered to students to address specific individual needs. Group participation is considered instructional time and is not a class absence, students are responsible for the material that may have been missed in class. Communications within the group are strongly encouraged to be kept confidential.

Although the types of groups offered differ each year depending on the needs of the students and counselors' schedules, the following are examples: first-generation college bound student groups, ninth grade success groups, grief groups, self-esteem groups, study skills groups, new student groups, and anger management groups.
