Levendia-X Hellenic Folklore Association Dance Group is very excited to announce the start of its 19th season. On Friday September 26 and Friday October 17 we will be hosting our season kick-off events for all returning traditional Greek dancers, and welcoming any new members.  We encourage new dancers that are at least 18 years of age and older to join us at this event as we launch another exciting season of traditional Greek dance.

Levendia is an independent dance group that is dedicated to cultivating and promoting Hellenic culture, primarily through traditional Greek music, song and dance.  Since 1996, they have performed across Ontario, Manitoba and appeared in parts of the USA.  They continue to perform traditional Greek and modern dances regularly at a variety of cultural events in the Greater Toronto Area, as well as entertain audiences for private functions and events.  While known for their artistic spirit and lively performances, they are strong supporters of the Greek community, Hellenic associations and are an inspiration to young dancers.

CATCH OF THE DAY: Greeks Headed to the World Series

Third baseman Mike Moustakas and catcher George Kottaras are flying the flag -- the flag of Greece, that is.  The Greek flag is hanging above their dressing stalls in the Kansas City Royals' clubhouse as they take note of their heritage. Kottaras' parents were born in Greece, but settled in the Toronto area where he was born. Moustakas is from the Los Angeles area, but his grandmother was born in Greece.

"I don't know how many times you've had two Greek guys in the same clubhouse on the same team," Kottaras said. "And they put us next to each other, which makes it even better." Kottaras played for Greece's baseball team in the 2004 Olympics. Why didn't Moustakas join him? "I was only about 14 years old then," Moustakas said.
