I've been using old MBP's for years; running out of options. Don't feel good about buying a new MBP for $3k+ and nothing I do works, or buying an old/refurbished MBP for "20% off" new. I've heard the somewhat nightmarish stories when moving to a new M1 MBP from a Helix perspective, workarounds, etc., yet have not focused. IIRC, if I buy a new M1 Pro based 16" MBP I'll need to run Helix inside a Parallels (or Fusion) VM that's running 10.11->10.13, correct? Best; Elton

I am regretting buying the M1 rather than Intel MacBookPro, both in
price and the constant tech issues. Apple keeps trying to keep me from
my software.
AFAIK, Virtual does not run 32 bit on M1, Parallels (not sure it runs on
M1) runs Windows only >OSX11. Just updated to OSX12.
It has been nothing but trouble for me. The new file system is a mistake
- is trying to run your computer completely in the cloud (like running
in a "crowd").
If anyone is interested in buying it I am open, would like to get an
Intel Machine.
From bugs to software stopping working wihtout immediate update...

NO VIRTUALIZATION SOLUTION WILL RUN A HELIX COMPATIBLE OS ON M1 MACS.

Thanks Bill; that was very clear and concise.  Given your an Tim's reply to the thread I started looking for a top-tier Intel i9 or i7's that could install 10.13x, and focused on the last MBP 15.4" i7 that had all of the ports I was used to on my 2011 & 2012 MBP's (didn't want to buy new scanners, external drives, cables, adapters, etc.), which led to a "like new" refurbished 2015 2.8ghz i7 Quad-Core w/16gb & 2TB PCIe-Flash storage/SSD via backmarket.com for with 2 year warranty and 30-day return policy for $2.5k less than the cost of the my 16" M1 Pro config that I was seriously considering -- that would not run Helix, the versions of Panorama & Excel that I prefer, that would have unforeseen compatibility issues, connect to nothing out of the box, etc.  It shipped with Monterey, yet a target mode CCC restore of my old MBP was as breeze; everything works and all is much faster/bigger/better than my 2012 13" MBP i5 that I was down to using after my 17" MBP's died.  Thanks again!  Best; Elton

Glad it worked for you… I have a new MacBook Pro on order and bought a Mac mini just to run helix on, as well as the myriad of other software that’s not ready for Apple Silicon yet. It won’t take up much space and I can run those apps using screen sharing from the new MacBook.
