Hi James,
We will be publishing a blog entry from Gil Numeroff early next week on
things to do to get your collection ready to run on Server 8.5. If you
are already running on V8, there is not much to do and this ought to be
straightforward. For folks with older collections, they need to get
to V8 and some legacy issues might show up.
Yes, this updates the server to 64bit. That allows you to run Server
on a modern mac machine with no restrictions (M chip, latest OS). At
the moment, you still access the collection via an older machine on
which the Helix Client is running. In larger installations, the speed
improvements from the server running on a modern machine alone are
worth it. When the other half of the Hybrid Server ships, you will then
be able to access your helix collection with a browser.
This announcement may not help you at the moment but, it's big, and
necessary, step forward for the technology and a vital piece that needs
to be in place to get to the full Hybrid Server and browser access.
