[Hx] Recommended Software in New BundleHunt Offering

As this venerable List winds down, I have one more group of recommendations regarding a new BundleHunt software bundle offering that became available on Monday. A few of the applications listed warrant mention and consideration:

The first such application is Simon. As we move to SQL backend servers, it seems likely that they will be running more continuously than Helix Server instances typically have. Simon can monitor many local and remote services and report changes or interruptions multiple ways. The license fee is only $2.00 per license. One notification that avoids a problem would deliver more value than the modest cost of the license fee.

Also as a consequence of moving to SQL backend servers, it seems likely that we will want to customize macOS system settings beyond those accessible through System Preferences. This makes MacPilot my second recommendation. Text-based utilities run from the Unix command line can edit system settings, and preference files can be edited directly, but MacPilot is easier, more convenient, and safer for those not fully comfortable with Terminal or manual editing.

My third recommendation is for Unite. This application converts Web-based applications to applications that run locally on macOS. Rendering is performed by WebKit, the same as in other standard macOS applications. As Web browsers replace Helix Client as the way we access our Collections, we should consider the benefits and detriments of the transition. I will prefer segregating the browser client from other Web browsing to enhance performance, stability, and security. The Safari Web Apps feature of newer versions of macOS now overlaps some of the functionality of Unite, but Unite runs on macOS 12 and greater and provides full data isolation.
