If I get an older version of Native Access from here -instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000407909 will it install an older version of Massive that's compatible with my Mac OS 10.13? There's a great deal on right now but the current version only support 10.15 onwards. Thanks

Then I saw there was komplete Kontrol so I installed the soft (slow, sluggish...) and could load Massive X in there (yet another layer? a standalone version would make it so quick...) BUT can't for the sake of me find a virtual keyboard to play notes with the keyboard of my laptop. Back to square one.

I find the user experience to be very bad (native access 2 is also sluggish and slow compared to v1, kontrol opens massive at 100% and it does not fit the screen at all...). I do have a synth with a keyboard but like to just open softs from time to time and play without having to connect anything.

Arturia offers a virtual keyboard with all their plugins and they can all be used standalone, that's smart. I use them a lot because it's just so easy. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Kontakt (memory hug, CPU hungry) that's at least practical (The NI libraries are great).

I tried to install Massive, after downloading it with the link from the site, on my brand new just bought Microsoft Surface Pro 9, and it doesn't work: after launching it, the initial splashscreen written "initializing" remains and it doesn't go on.

Were you ever able to find a solution @marcopmp ? I am having the EXACT same issues as you. Tried installing on two different Windows 10 PCs freezes on initializing, will not allow me to change any settings or drivers. I also use Realtek btw for my Audio device. No Audio Interface used. Trying standalone version of Massive on both so no DAW to complicate things. Both freeze and eat all of the memory. There is clearly a memory leak in this version of Massive with Windows 10. It's a nightmare. I guess I'm not going to buy the product during the summer sale if the demo cannot run on two seperate different Windows 10 PCs

@marcopmp We tried to install the demo on various Windows 11 systems without a problem, it is working, not sure why it does happen to you. I created a ticket and contacted you by email. My colleagues will check your case.

I made several attempts again, also reached out to the teams responsible for our systems. You should have received these messages, check with your email inbox, settings, spam, etc...or send me an alternative email address by direct message. I've removed your image, you shouldn't be sharing email addresses and private data on a public forum.

has anyone fixed this issue as mine has worked fine then all of a sudden iv had this error come up .tried all sorts and nothing works. im sure this happened when i added a few diff folders with presets.. before it was working untill then.i loaded it back up to the same issue people are having on this site...hope this helps narrow the issue down.iv installed older versions of massive, cleared directories, took out all folders with the presets.added asio again.install intel pci communication engine again.re installed pretty much everything again. still no luck

Absolutely, that means this is a vst3 plugin and i would advise to always use vst3 if you can. Massive has now a vst3 version so use that. I could only test on my win11 and cubase 12 rig and it worked like it should.

If it even crashes as stand alone app then maybe windows prevents it from starting? How does it look like if you want to start it stand alone? You could try to uninstall and use the regcleaning tool, then reinstall. Ohh and try to start massive stand alone as admin. -instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003509269-Fixing-Software-Update-Installation-Issues-Windows-

I still had an old 32-bit Massive vst laying around in that Live 8 installation folder and I am also able to initialize Massive within Live 8, no problem. Unfortunately, it wants me to activate it. Via the NI Service Center. Which has been terminated. And replaced by Native Access. But as it turns out, Native Access fails at activating my 32-bit version of Massive. Who had guessed? Even when I install the 64-bit vst via Native Access into a folder structure and then place the 32-bit vst into that same folder structure, it does not accept it and still wants me to activate it. Offline activation is also not possible since this feature has been completely removed.

So basically, I own Massive and have a working 32-bit vst of it but can't activate and therefore use it. So my question is: how on earth do I get massive working properly as a 32-bit vst? I mean there must be a way, right? Otherwise offering the download seems pretty useless.

The specific reasons are not too important tbh but it boils down to Live 8 being Suite and Live 11 being Standard. This results in some technical difficulties and just finishing the groundwork of the track in Live 8 and subsequently importing wavs for mixing/mastering to Live 11 is likely the easier route for me to take at the moment.

Sorry but there is nothing like massive on iOS. Especially for the fast and easy and crazy modulation options.
I do wish N.I. would release a Massive 2.0.
You might get similar sounds with some synths but there is not one with such a workflow. Its even still kind of unique in the desktop world (even when there are a few similar synths today).

Disagree, @Cib: FabFilter Twin 2 is THE direct competitor to NI Massive in the Desktop and the iOS port is identical to the PC version, so that would be my recommendation. IMO, Twin 2 has better filters - much less aliasing than Massive (still has some aliasing, though). On the other hand, Massive has an extra oscilator, with comes in handy.

1) You can select from dozens of basic, analog/electric, digital/hybrid, and FX/Chords to use as the basis for your three oscillators.
2) a powerful modulation matrix, with a super easy to use UI Very easy for people to program.

As for #2, Synthmaster One, Zeeon, Nave, and ODYSSEi have great modulation matrices. I'm sure there are many others.
Are they as easy to use as Massive? That's debatable. But you can get big, complex sounds out of using them.

I thought Zed synth was the closest to Massive with its clever/ complicated modulation of buttons. Wavetables and subtractive and clever mod matrix was Z3ta, hope we get her back.
Id love to see NI Massive on iOS eh!
Synthmaster soon!

no vote for thor?
Synthmaster One is very good, no question, but the iOS version has very limited editing.
thor has many different kinds of oscillators including a good choice of wavetables, great filters, great modulation matrix and a well-done, visually and ergonomically pleasing UI.
from what I know by now I'd say it's the closest match to Massive regarding its synthesis toolbox.

Beatmakers sampler is pretty much the standard right now for Neuros and Reeses, not for creating the raw source material, but because of the layering and modulation, every single source Reese or Neuro is the basis of a minimum of ten more, this is how resampling of them works, you never delete a Reese or Neuro.
It is a shame that Beatmaker does not have drag n drop or one click resampling, once it has that, it will be a Neuro/Reese machine !!

I think groups like SALEM and White Ring may be running their equipment through guitar amps and effects, then micing the cabs combined with a DI.
I have a matched pair of Roland bass amps and I should probably line out through those. I just can't get the synth sound I "want".

The Browser provides access to Massive X's extensive factory library and Expansions. Sophisticated browser functionality allows you to filter sounds by tags, text search, User presets and Favorites, helping you to quickly and intuitively find the right presets for your musical needs.

Product Filter: Contains all your factory libraries and Expansions. Selecting a Product tile filters the Results list with relevant presets. Browsing with Filter tags and Text Search adjusts the Product filter accordingly. Refer to Filtering by Product.Filtering by Product

Tag Filters: Contains Sound Type and Character filters that use NKS tagging to enhance the browsing experience. Switch between the two Filters interchangeably and explore tags that classify and organize presets based on various musical attributes and functions. Refer to Filtering by Sound Type and Filtering by Character. Filtering by Sound TypeFiltering by Character

Search Field: Filters presets according to text entered in the Search field. The search engine considers preset names, author, Filter names, and metadata including Character and Product tags. The Results list is filtered according to the terms entered in the Search field. Additionally, it shows your selection in the Sound Type and Character filters, and lets you remove filter tags. Refer to Using the Search Field.

User Presets: Displays all User presets in the Results list. Click the User icon to activate the filter and remove factory presets from your search. User presets will not be included in the Product and NKS tags, but can be added to the Favorites list. Refer to Using Presets.
